A storage stable, improved catalyst is obtained when an aluminum-reduced titanium trichloride catalyst which has been modified by treatment with an electron donor is heated at a temperature and for a period of time sufficient to drive the reaction to completion. In some instances this will involve the removal of gas which has been generated during the modification. In the usual practice a temperature of about 90.degree. C. and a period of about 90 minutes will be employed.

Method for making titanium trichloride catalysts

Polyolefin resins are rendered stable against degradation caused by exposure to heat and oxygen in the presence of copper by the incorporation of a novel polymeric stabilizer functioning dually as an antioxidant and a chelating agent.

Stabilized polyolefin compositions

Improved color, brightness and corrosion resistance are imparted to metal surfaces such as zinc plated surfaces, by treatment with a non-toxic solution comprised of sulfuric acid, hydrogen peroxide, a silicate and at least one cationic triarylmethane dye. Certain organophosphorus compound additives further enhance the corrosion resistance.

Non-chromate conversion coatings

Improved brightness and corrosion resistance are imparted to metal surfaces such as zinc plated surfaces, by treatment with a non-toxic solution comprised of sulfuric acid, hydrogen peroxide, a silicate, certain primary organophosphorus compound promoters and at least one secondary promoter selected from ascorbic acid, boric acid, gluconic acid, glycolic acid, tartaric acid and salts of said acids.

Improved brightness and corrosion resistance are imparted to metal surfaces such as zinc plated surfaces, by treatment with a non-toxic solution comprised of sulfuric acid, hydrogen peroxide and a silicate. Certain organophosphorus and organonitrogen compound additives further enhance the corrosion resistance.

Phosphorus oxytrichloride modified titanium trichloride polymerization catalysts of improved efficiency and/or isotacticity are obtained when the modification reaction is carried out in the presence of methylene chloride.

Polyolefin catalyst

Improved metal dissolution rates are obtained when using a solution containing sulfuric acid, hydrogen peroxide and an effective amount of a ketone soluble in the solution.

Clean etchings at high rates are obtained using a solution containing sulfuric acid, hydrogen peroxide, a catalytic amount of a selenium compound of a +4 oxidation state and a secondary or tertiary alcohol.

Improved metal dissolution rates are obtained when using a solution containing sulfuric acid, hydrogen peroxide and certain primary diols.

Clean etchings at high rates are obtained using a solution containing sulfuric acid, hydrogen peroxide, a catalytic amount of a selenium compound of a +4 oxidation state and t-butyl hydroperoxide.

Dissolution of metals with a selenium catalyzed H.sub.2 O.sub.2 -H.sub.2

Polyolefins pigmented with copper phtalocyanine complexes are rendered stable against heat and oxidation by addition of a metal chelating agent.
