Power-combining devices, and more particularly spatial power-combining devices with increased output power are disclosed. Increased output power may be realized by increasing a number of transmission paths for amplification that are associated with each amplifier assembly of a spatial power-combining device. Each transmission path may include an input antenna structure, an amplifier, and an output antenna structure for providing amplification of signals that pass therethrough. In this manner, a total number of transmission paths for amplification may be increased without having to increase a total number of amplifier assemblies. Further improvements to electrical separation and stability between neighboring amplifier assemblies may be provided by electrically grounded conductive sheets that are arranged between neighboring amplifier assemblies.

Power-combining devices with increased output power

The present disclosure relates to a transition system, which includes a monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) package and a printed-circuit-board (PCB) with a number of PCB vias. The MMIC package has a laminate-based body, which includes a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) structure with a number of SIW vias, and a MMIC die over the laminate-based body. Herein, the SIW structure faces the PCB and is separate from the PCB with a gap in between. The SIW structure is configured to radiate radio frequency (RF) signals received from the MMIC die to the PCB. An arrangement of the PCB vias is scaling-mirrored to an arrangement of the SIW vias, such that each PCB via and a corresponding SIW via have a same relative position. The arrangement of PCB vias is about aligned with the arrangement of the SIW vias.

High frequency / high power transition system using SIW structure

Waveguide transition devices for power-combining devices are disclosed. A waveguide transition device includes a coaxial waveguide section that is configured to concurrently receive electromagnetic output signals from a plurality of amplifiers and transition the electromagnetic output signals to a waveguide coupling section to form a combined and amplified electromagnetic signal. In turn, the waveguide coupling section transitions the combined and amplified electromagnetic signal to a waveguide output port. As disclosed herein, representative waveguide transition devices are configured to allow higher operating powers without typical device failure mechanisms. Spatial power-combining devices that include representative waveguide transition devices have improved power handling capabilities.

Waveguide transitions for power-combining devices

A spatium amplifier includes a plurality of amplifiers connected between a pair of spatial couplers, each having a core member and a shell member forming an antenna. The core member includes a cylindrical core portion and a plurality of tapering core fins extending radially outwardly from the cylindrical core portion. The shell member includes a cylindrical shell portion and a plurality of tapering shell fins extending radially inwardly from the cylindrical shell portion to form a plurality of fin pairs. Each fin pair forms a tapering channel having a first channel height at a first end of the antenna and a second channel height larger than the first channel height at a second end of the antenna. Each of the plurality of amplifiers is electromagnetically coupled to a respective fin pair at the first end of each of the antennas.

Spatial coupler and antenna for splitting and combining electromagnetic signals

Spatial power-combining devices for higher frequency operation and increased bandwidth applications are disclosed. The spatial power-combining device includes a center waveguide section with a plurality of amplifier assemblies. The plurality of amplifier assemblies forms an input end and an output end, and an input inner conductor is mechanically attached to the input end, and an output inner conductor is mechanically attached to the output end. A method for joining a plurality of amplifier assemblies together to provide a center waveguide with an input end including an input connector receptacle and an output end including an output connector receptacle is also disclosed.

Spatial combining devices for high-frequency operation

An amplifier assembly for a spatial power combining device. The amplifier assembly includes a body that forms a first antenna, wherein the first antenna is a first Vivaldi antenna including a first circular backstub and a first tapered slot portion. The amplifier assembly further includes a second antenna, and a printed circuit board (PCB) assembly fixed to the body. The PCB assembly includes a PCB, an amplifier mounted on the PCB, a first transmission line coupled to the first antenna and to the amplifier, and a second transmission line coupled to the second antenna and to the amplifier.

Amplifier assembly and spatial power combining device

A spatial power-combining device and an antenna structure designed for high efficiency, high frequency, and ultra-wide bandwidth operation. The antenna structure may include a signal conductor and a ground conductor that are entirely separated by air. A spatial power-combining device may include a plurality of amplifier assemblies including multiple output antenna structures and an output coaxial waveguide section configured to concurrently combine signals received from each output antenna structure of the plurality of amplifier assemblies. The plurality of amplifier assemblies may also include multiple input antenna structures and an input coaxial waveguide configured to provide an input signal concurrently to each input antenna structure of the plurality of amplifier assemblies.

Spatial combining device and antenna

Spatial power-combining devices having amplifier connectors are disclosed. A spatial power-combining device structure includes a plate including a first face, a second face that opposes the first face, an exterior surface between the first face and the second face, and a plurality of amplifier connectors accessible at the exterior surface. A waveguide assembly is coupled to the plate at the first face, the waveguide assembly including an inner housing including a plurality of antenna signal conductors and an outer housing including a plurality of antenna ground conductors. A coaxial waveguide section is coupled to the waveguide assembly. The plurality of amplifier connectors may be radially arranged in the plate. A plurality of amplifier modules are on the exterior surface and coupled to corresponding ones of the plurality of amplifier connectors.
