An ammonia-burning combustion engine. In particular, the present invention relates to an internal combustion engine for the combustion of ammonia, the engine comprising one or more combustions chambers comprising an ammonia combustion catalyst. The invention further relates to a method for operating an internal combustion engine by the combustion of ammonia, the method comprising contacting ammonia with a heated ammonia combustion catalyst in a combustion chamber of the engine to combust the ammonia.

Ammonia-burning combustion engine

The present invention relates to a system for ammonia combustion and exhaust gas treatment, the system comprising: an internal combustion engine for combusting ammonia; and an exhaust system comprising an intake for receiving an exhaust gas from the combustion engine, an upstream injector for adding hydrogen gas to the exhaust gas and a downstream catalyst article, wherein the downstream catalyst article comprises a three-way catalyst (TWC) composition. The invention further relates to a method for the treatment of an exhaust gas from an ammonia internal combustion engine.

A catalyst article including a substrate with an inlet side and an outlet side, a first zone and a second zone, where the first zone comprises a passive NOx adsorber (PNA) comprising a platinum group metal and a base metal, both on a molecular sieve, and an ammonia slip catalyst (ASC) comprising an oxidation catalyst comprising a platinum group metal on a support, and a first SCR catalyst; where the second zone comprises a catalyst selected from the group consisting of a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and a diesel exotherm catalyst (DEC); and where the first zone is located upstream of the second zone. The first zone may include a bottom layer including a blend of: (1) the oxidation catalyst and (2) the first SCR catalyst; and a top layer including a second SCR catalyst, the top layer located over the bottom layer.

Platinum group metal and base metal on a molecular sieve for PNA-SCR-ASC close-coupled system

Catalysts and articles useful for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) are disclosed. The catalyst comprises a cerium oxide and an octahedral molecular sieve (OMS) comprising manganese oxide. The catalysts, which comprise 0.1 to 50 wt. % of cerium, can be made by doping, ion-exchange, deposition, or other techniques. Also disclosed is an SCR process in which a gaseous mixture comprising nitrogen oxides is selectively reduced in the presence of a reductant and the cerium-modified OMS catalyst. The cerium-modified manganese oxide OMS catalysts offer unexpected advantages for selective catalytic reduction, especially NH-SCR, including improved thermal stability and improved activity for NOx conversion, especially at relatively low temperatures (100&#xb0; C. to 250&#xb0; C.).
