A pneumatic tire having improved wet traction has two annular aquachannels. The tire has a wide, substantially square footprint, a distinctive tread pattern, and a new tread compound, and exhibits good QGL wet traction in addition to excellent hydroplaning properties. The tire also has good handling and wear properties.

A pneumatic tire with tread composed of a sulfur cured rubber comprised of, based on the rubber (A) cis 1,4-polyisoprene; (B) at least one of isoprene/acrylonitrile rubber and butadiene/acrylonitrile rubber and, optionally; (C) at least one additional rubber which includes cis 1,4-polybutadiene characterized in that the cis 1,4-polybutadiene is a primary rubber constituent.

A vehicle tire (10) has a tread (20) with a plurality of ribs (30,31,32) extending circumferentially about the tread. The ribs each have a pair of lateral edges (48,49;60,61) which comprise edge segments placed end to end to present a zigzag configuration. Each rib has grooves (37,38;39,40) therein which intersect the lateral edges of the respective rib and have varying depths at said lateral edges. Preferably, the tread has an all-season configuration.
