A method is described that includes receiving one or more seismic measurements corresponding to a plurality of source and receiver locations and providing an earth model for a geologic medium having a heterogeneous tilted symmetry axis. The earth model includes a nonzero shear velocity in the direction of the symmetry axis. The one or more seismic measurements are propagated over a plurality of time-steps in accordance with the earth model and a set of energy-conservative self-adjoint pseudoacoustic equations. The set of energy-conservative self-adjoint pseudoacoustic equations describes one or more seismic wavefields.

A system and computer-implemented method for determining properties of a subsurface region of interest from seismic data include obtaining seismic data and an initial earth property model, forward modeling using the initial earth property model to create modeled seismic data, transforming the modeled and actual seismic data to create frequency domain modeled and actual seismic data including amplitude portion and phase portions, measuring the misfit between the frequency domain modeled and actual seismic data to produce frequency domain residual seismic data, performing phase unwrapping of certain observed frequency components of the frequency domain residual seismic data to create an unwrapped residual phase portion, and inverting the unwrapped residual phase portion to determine desired properties of the subsurface region of interest.

System and method for seismic data inversion

A method for obtaining enhanced seismic data and optimized inverted reflectivities includes computing statistical well characterizations based upon band-limited well reflectivities for a subsurface region. Sets of processed seismic data are computed by applying differing processing sequences to seismic data corresponding to the subsurface region. Inverted reflectivities are computed by inverting the sets of processed seismic data. Statistical seismic characterizations are computed based upon the inverted reflectivities. Statistical difference measurements (SDMs) are computed between the statistical well and seismic characterizations. An optimal processing sequence is selected based upon the computed SDMs. Enhanced seismic data is obtained by processing the seismic data corresponding to the subsurface region. An optimal seismic inversion algorithm is obtained based upon the computed SDMs. The seismic data is inverted using the optimal seismic inversion algorithm to produce a set of optimized inverted reflectivities.

Optimizing seismic processing and amplitude inversion utilizing statistical comparisons of seismic to well control data

The present invention determines seismic data quality for a plurality of locations within a seismic survey for a geologic or geophysical region of interest. The present invention additionally includes generating correlation coefficients which relate to the seismic data quality so that the seismic data quality can be incorporated into geostatistical analyses associated with decisions that are based in part on the seismic survey.
