A hollow cylindrical electrostatographic imaging member supporting end flange including a disk shaped member, a supporting hub extending axially from the disk shaped member and a metal disk coaxially secured to the hub, the disk comprising a plurality of rectangular tabs extending radially from the disk in a direction away from an imaginary axis of the hub for engagement with the hollow cylindrical electrostatographic imaging member upon insertion of the hub and disk shaped member into one end of the hollow cylindrical electrostatographic imaging member. When this end flange is inserted into one end of the hollow cylindrical electrostatographic imaging member, the plurality of rectangular tabs extending radially from the disk engage the inner surface of the hollow cylindrical electrostatographic imaging member.

A process for dip coating drums comprising providing a drum having an outer surface to be coated, an upper end and a lower end, providing at least one coating vessel having a bottom, an open top and a cylindrically shaped vertical interior wall having a diameter greater than the diameter of the drum, flowing liquid coating material from the bottom of the vessel to the top of the vessel, immersing the drum in the flowing liquid coating material while maintaining the axis of the drum in a vertical orientation, maintaining the outer surface of the drum in a concentric relationship with the vertical interior wall of the cylindrical coating vessel while the drum is immersed in the coating material, the outer surface of the drum being radially spaced from the vertical interior wall of the cylindrical coating vessel, maintaining laminar flow motion of the coating material as it passes between the outer surface of the drum and the vertical interior wall of the vessel, maintaining the radial spacing between the outer surface of the drum and the inner surface of the vessel between about 2 millimeters and about 9 millimeters, and withdrawing the drum from the coating vessel.

Immersion coating process

Apparatus for dip coating comprising a drum having an outer surface to be coated, an upper end and a lower end, at least one coating vessel having a bottom, an open top and a cylindrically shaped vertical interior wall having a diameter greater than the diameter of the drum, an inlet at the bottom of the vessel, the inlet adapted to feed flowing coating fluid into the vessel, a mandrel adapted to maintain the outer surface of the drum in a concentric relationship with the vertical interior wall of the cylindrical coating vessel while the drum is immersed in the flowing coating material, the outer surface of the drum being radially spaced from the vertical interior wall of the cylindrical coating vessel, and at least one flow regulating member adapted to maintain laminar flow motion of the coating material as the fluid passes between the outer surface of the drum and the vertical inner wall of the vessel.

Immersion coating apparatus

A reusable photoreceptor assembly has a gear assembly removable from a photoreceptor. A square leaf spring or ring is used to secure and remove the gear assembly to and from the photoreceptor, thereby avoiding damage to both the gear assembly and photoreceptor during the removal of the gear assembly. The undamaged gear assembly and photoreceptor may then be reused.

Method and apparatus for reusing a photoreceptor and gear assembly

An apparatus is disclosed for internally holding an at least partially hollow substrate having at least one open end. The apparatus includes a member defining a fluid passageway, a normally inflated porous material mounted on the member in communication with the fluid passageway of the member, and a mechanism, in communication with the member, for deflating the porous material, the deflating mechanism being de-energized in response to the porous material being disposed into the opening in the substrate for enabling the porous material to return to being normally inflated to hold the substrate.

Substrate holding device

A device is disclosed for controlling the respective phased rotation relative to one another of two rotating shafts. The device of the invention finds particular application with respect to automotive engines and sequential operations associated therewith. The rotational displacement, for example, of a cam shaft used to control the opening and closing of engine valves can be controlled with respect to the phasing of rotation of the crankshaft of an engine. The invention finds particular application with regard to a unique, cam actuated valve lifter. In addition, such functions as fuel injection, ignition timing and other sequential operations in an internal combustion engine can be controlled relative, for example, to the rotation crankshaft.

Device for controlling the phased displacement of rotating shafts

A coating system is disclosed comprising apparatus for coating webs comprising a rigid, elongated trough, a cylindrical applicator mounted for rotation about its axis within the trough, the trough having an arcuate upstream liquid retaining surface and an arcuate downstream liquid retaining surface substantially parallel to and closely spaced from the lower surface of the cylindrical applicator to define an arcuate coating zone, a manifold between the upstream liquid retaining surface and the downstream liquid retaining surface, the manifold extending substantially parallel to the axis of the cylindrical applicator, the arcuate downstream liquid retaining surface and the arcuate upstream liquid retaining surface extending from the manifold upwardly a sufficient distance along the periphery of the cylindrical applicator to retain most of any liquid in the coating zone, a wall at each end of the trough to retain the liquid in the coating zone, each of the walls being closely spaced from the adjacent end of the cylindrical applicator, an arcuate drain channel adjacent to at least one of the walls to collect overflow liquid from the downstream liquid retaining zone and return the overflow liquid back by gravity to the manifold, and means for continuously introducing liquid into the manifold. A process for using this type of apparatus for coating webs is also disclosed.

Coating system

A device is described for controlling the intake and exhaust valves of an internal combustion engine. Separate valve actuators are provided for opening and closing the intake and exhaust valves of each cylinder of an engine. Each such actuator is connected to a pair of cam actuated pumps for providing timed pulses of pressurized fluid to the valve actuators. The cams which actuate the pumps are turned by a planetary gear mechanism which permits the incidence of pump actuation in relation to the rotation of a shaft turned by the engine to be varied. The device permits close, precise and variable control of the valve timing of the engine to thereby achieve enhanced engine performance.
