An inflow control device, including an upstream flow control structure configured to induce water droplet collisions, and a downstream flow control structure disposed downstream of the upstream flow control structure and comprising a channel formed therethrough. A method of controlling flow including flowing a fluid from a source to a destination through an inflow control device comprising an upstream flow control structure and a downstream flow control structure disposed downstream of the upstream flow control structure and comprising a channel formed therethrough, and inducing water droplet collisions in the upstream flow control structure. A wellbore system including a borehole in a subsurface formation, a string disposed in the borehole, and the inflow control device, disposed within or as part of the string.

Inflow control device

A density-based flow control configuration includes a housing and a first baffle having a first flow opening, a second baffle having a second flow opening adjacent the first baffle, one of the baffles being rotationally movable relative to the housing and to the other of the baffles, a first density float associated with the movable baffle, to impart torque to the associated baffle, the torque causing alignment or misalignment of the first and second openings. A method for allowing flow of a target fluid and choking flow of a nontarget fluid, including exposing a density-based flow control configuration to a fluid, imparting torque to a first baffle, and aligning or misaligning an opening in the first baffle with another opening to allow or choke flow of the fluid. A wellbore system, including a density-based flow control configuration.

Density-based flow control configuration, method, and system

A fluid density valve housing includes a pilot fluid inlet and outlet and a primary fluid inlet and outlet. A shuttle is disposed within the housing. The shuttle comprises a portion having a reference density and a portion defining a cavity fluidically connected to the pilot fluid inlet, the shuttle permitting or denying primary fluid flow depending upon a density of a pilot fluid flowing through the cavity versus the reference density. A method for controlling flow, including comparing density of a pilot flow with a reference density, moving a valve between fully open, fully closed, and choked depending upon the differential density between the pilot fluid and the reference density. A borehole system, including a borehole in a subsurface formation, a string in the borehole, and a fluid density valve disposed within or as a part of the string.

Fluid density valve, method, and system

An inflow control device (ICD), including a hydrocyclonic device having a plurality of pressure taps therein and a valve responsive to differential pressure of the plurality of pressure taps. An inflow control device (ICD) including a switch having a primary flow inlet and a primary flow outlet, and a trigger that generates a differential pressure in the trigger due to separation of fluids having different densities. A method for allowing flow of a desired fluid while retarding a flow of undesired fluid in a flow control device, including flowing a pilot fluid through a fluid separator, separating components of the pilot fluid, applying differential pressure of two of the separated components to a valve that is actuated by differential pressure, flowing or retarding flow of a primary flow through the valve in response to the differential pressure.

Inflow control device, method and system

An inflow control device includes a first flow control structure that is porous and forms differing flowpaths for water and oil. A method of controlling flow includes flowing a fluid from a source to a destination through the inflow control device, and controlling flow via the first flow control structure such that oil flows through the inflow control device more easily than water. A method of controlling flow includes flowing a fluid from a source to a destination through the inflow control device, and flowing a portion of water in the fluid through the first flow control structure to impinge on an upstream surface of the second flow control structure. A wellbore system includes a borehole in a subsurface formation, a string disposed in the borehole, and the inflow control device disposed within or as part of the string.

A clamp for a line including a body, and a control line contact surface, the clamp being responsive to a selected input to facilitate displacement of the line. An expandable tool including a component having a first dimension prior to activation and a second dimension after activation, a control line disposed adjacent the component, and a clamp initially securing the control line, the clamp comprising at least one of 1) a fastener and 2) a body, at least a portion of either of which being responsive to a selected input to facilitate displacement of the control line. A method for deploying a tool with a control line including securing the control line to the tool, reacting the at least a portion of the clamp to the input, and displacing the control line. A tubular for reservoir fines control includes a body having an outer surface and an inner surface defining a flow path. A plurality of openings is formed in the body connecting the outer surface and the flow path. A pre-formed member including a material mesh is overlaid onto the outer surface. The material mesh is formed from a material swellable upon exposure to a selected fluid. The material mesh has a selected porosity allowing methane to pass into the flow path while preventing passage of fines.

A method of drilling a wellbore system, including determining a conductive formation layer from a plurality of formation layers having a first well extending therethrough, the first well having a first work string therein, the first work string including a device, placing a second well at a distance from the first well, the distance selected to allow communication of an electrical signal between the first well and the second well through the conductive formation layer based on a resistivity of the electrically conductive formation layer, disposing a second work string in the second well, and communicating the electrical signal from the second work string to the first work string through the electrically conductive formation layer to operate the device.

Downhole wireless communication system through adjacent wells

A method for deploying a sand screen in a borehole penetrating the earth includes: disposing the sand screen in an unexpanded form in the borehole, the sand screen at least partially surrounding a base-pipe; and activating the sand screen in the unexpanded form by applying at least one of an activation fluid and heat to the sand screen causing the sand screen to expand into an expanded form. The method further includes: conveying a downhole tool through the base-pipe, the downhole tool being configured to sense a property derived from at least one of expansion and non-expansion of the sand screen as a function of distance into the borehole to provide sensed data as a function of distance into the borehole; and identifying one of an expanded state and an unexpanded state of the sand screen using the sensed data as a function of distance into the borehole.

A tubular for reservoir fines control includes a body having an outer surface and an inner surface defining a flow path. A plurality of openings are formed in the body connecting the outer surface and the flow path. A material mesh is overlaid onto the outer surface. The material mesh is formed from a material swellable upon exposure to a selected fluid. The material mesh has a selected porosity allowing methane to pass into the flow path while preventing passage of fines.

A disintegrable downhole article comprises an electrolytically degradable metallic matrix and an energetic material comprising a first metal and a second metal that is in physical contact with the first metal. The first metal and the second metal are selected such that the first metal reacts with the second metal to generate an alloy, an intermetallic compound, heat, or a combination comprising at least one of the foregoing when electrically actuated. A method of controllably removing a disintegrable downhole article comprises disposing the downhole article in a downhole environment; performing a downhole operation; electrically actuating the energetic material; and disintegrating the downhole article.

A method for installing a tool in a downhole system including running the tool to a target location within a tubular structure, creating a magnetic pulse, and urging the tool toward the tubular structure at a minimum velocity of 200 meters per second with the magnetic pulse.
