Apparatus for supplying a fluid to a device for tightening or loosening fasteners including a first fluid-transmitting element () having a first axis connectable with a housing of the device; a second fluid-transmitting element () rotatably connectable with the first element () about a second axis substantially perpendicular to the first axis; a third fluid-transmitting element () rotatably connectable with the second element () about a third axis substantially perpendicular to the second axis and connectable with a fluid-transmitting line; and first and second fluid conduits that transfer fluid to and from the device and the fluid-transmitting line through the first, second and third elements. The first element is rotatable 360&#xb0; about the first axis; the second element is rotatable 360&#xb0; about the second axis; and the third element is rotatable less than 360&#xb0; about the third axis.

Apparatus for tightening threaded fasteners

Apparatus for tightening or loosening fasteners pneumatically, electrically, hydraulically and manually driven are disclosed, and in one example includes: a receiving member, rotatably supported in the apparatus for tightening or loosening, for receiving the fastener; a device for effecting rotation of the receiving member to tighten or loosen the fastener; and an apparatus which transfers a reaction force during tightening or loosening of the fasteners. The apparatus which transfers a reaction force includes: a first force-transmitting element rotatably attachable about a turning force axis of the device for effecting rotation; and a second force-transmitting element either rotatably attachable about, extensibly and retractably attachable along, or rotatably attachable about and extensibly and retractably attachable along at least a portion of the first element.

Apparatus for tightening or loosening fasteners

A method of tightening and loosening threaded connectors in an object includes threadingly connecting a nut with a bolt introduced in the object with interposition of a washer between the nut and the object, turning the nut by a tool to tighten or loosen the bolt in the object with interposition of the washer, forming the washer with an outer body having a radially inner opening larger than a diameter of the bolt and radially outer surface adapted to absorb a reaction force of the tool, optionally also with a radially inner segment engageable with a thread of the bolt and connectable to the radially outer body with a limited axial frictional movement relative to the outer body, and optionally also with a spacer locatable between the radially inner segment and the nut, interposing only said radially outer body of the washer between the nut and the object for regular applications, optionally interposing the radially outer body and the radially inner segment together between the nut and object for applications when even and accurate bolt elongation is necessary, and optionally interposing the radially outer body, the radially inner segment, and the spacer between the nut and the object for applications when a precise bolt load is needed and a bolt elongation must be controlled.

A washer for tightening and loosening threaded connectors includes an outer body having a radially inner opening larger than a diameter of a bolt and a radially outer surface adapted to absorb a reaction force of the bolt; and optionally a radially inner segment, and a spacer locatable between the radially inner segment and the nut, so that when only the radially outer body is interposed between the nut and the object for regular applications the washer functions as a reaction washer, when the radially outer body and the radially inner segment are interposed together between the nut and the object for applications when even and accurate bolt elongation is necessary the washer functions as a tension washer, and when the radially outer body, the radially inner segment, and the spacer are interposed between the nut and the object for applications when a precise bolt elongation is needed and a bolt elongation must be controlled the washer functions as a high precision washer.

A safety torque intensifying tool has a housing, a torque intensifying unit providing at least two modes of operation including a first mode in which the tool operates with a high speed and a low torque and a second mode in which the tool operates with a low speed and a high torque, a grip to be held by a tool operator, an additional element acting as a handle for better gripping in the first mode in which the tool operates with the high speed and low torque and also as a reaction arm to abut against a stationary object to stop the housing from turning in the second mode when the tool operates with the low speed and the high torque, and a switching unit for switching the tool between the first and second modes and configured so that when the operator does not act on the switching unit the tool is in the second mode of operation with the low speed and the high torque, and when the switching unit is switched by the operator while the additional element acts as a handle, the tool is switched to the first mode of operation with the high speed and the low torque, until the operator stops acting on the switching unit and the tool is switched itself back to the second mode of operation.

A torque intensifying tool for tightening and loosening threaded connectors has at least one torque intensifier unit with a torque intensifier housing portion, an input and a first output and a second output, a drive connected with the input unit for transmitting a torque from the drive through the intensifying unit to a threaded connector, so that in one mode of operation the housing portion together with the first and the second outputs turn in the same direction, and in another mode of operation the housing portion together with one of the first and second outputs receives a turning force in one direction while the other one of the first and second outputs receives an equal turning force in the opposite direction, and so that one of the first and second output means turns in the one mode and in the another mode while the other of the first and second output means turns in the one mode and reacts in the another mode.

A hand-held torque power wrench for tightening and loosening fasteners, the torque power tool has a motor, a housing, at least one handle configured to hold the torque power wrench in a position and to pull a trigger with one hand of an operator, and a safety device operatable by the other hand of the operator, so that when it is operated by the other hand of the operator the torque power wrench is functioning to tighten or loosen the fastener, but when the only one hand of the operator is used for holding the torque power wrench in position and pulling the trigger, the torque power wrench is not functioning to tighten or loosen the fastener.

A reaction arm for a power-driven torque intensifier having a housing with an axis, a torque intensifier unit and a switching device for switching the torque intensifier unit between high speed/low torque and low speed/high torque, is configured for operating the switching device so that when the reaction arm is placed in a first position, the torque intensifier unit is switched to high speed/low torque and the reaction arm is usable as a handle by an operator, and when the reaction arm is placed in a second position the torque intensifier unit is switched to low speed/high torque and the reaction arm can abut against a stationary object since the high torque can not be absorbed by the operator.

A fluid-operated torque wrench for tightening or loosening a fastener has a housing having two housing portions including a cylinder portion and a driving portion, cylinder-piston means arranged in the cylinder portion and movable along a first axis, a lever-type ratchet mechanism arranged in the driving portion and connected to the cylinder-piston means to be driven by the later, the lever-type ratchet mechanism having a ratchet turnable about a second axis which is perpendicular to the first axis, at least three connecting elements including first and second connecting elements receiving a given turning force acting in one direction during operation of the wrench, and a third connecting element receiving a turning force in an opposite direction during operation of the wrench and being equal to the given turning force acting in the one direction, so that one of the turning forces turns a fastener to be tightened or loosened while another of the turning forces is transferred to a stationary object.

A fluid operated torque tool tightens a nut through a spring washer on a plate on a railroad crossing, and has a housing, two coaxial drives applying equal turning forces in opposite directions around an axis, with one of the two coaxial drives located around the other of the two coaxial drives, a first socket attached to the one coaxial drive and configured to fit on the rectangular plate, and a second socket attached to the other coaxial drive inside the first socket and configured to fit on the nut, with the washer being not engaged by the sockets, so as to tighten the nut and to tighten up the spring washer onto the plate while the first socket and the housing stand still.

An apparatus for calibration of a fluid-operated power torque tool having a housing and a drive has a non-turnable torque measuring unit for measuring a torque generated by the tool, a non-turnable abutment unit, a first connecting element configured for connecting the drive of the tool with the torque measuring unit, for measuring a torque generated by the tool when a fluid pressure is applied to the tool, an adjustable braking unit configured for providing an adjustable braking force, a second connecting element configured for connecting the housing of the tool with the adjustable braking unit to apply the adjustable braking force to the housing so as to increase a turning resistance to turning of the housing of the tool, so that when the tool is operated the housing of the tool starts turning at a force determined by the braking unit while the drive of the tool apply an opposite and equal force to the measuring unit, so that when the braking force is increased a fluid pressure required for the tool increases and the tool can be calibrated, by determining the generated torque that corresponds to the applied fluid pressure, without inertia.

A washer has a body having an axis and provided with a first face surface located at one axial side and adapted to cooperate with a nut, a second face surface located at an opposite axial side and adapted to cooperate with an object to be assembled or disassembled, and at least one additional turning resistant surface adapted to cooperate with a bolt, the additional turning resistant surface of the body being formed as a frictional surface providing a friction between the body and the bolt to frictionally impede the bolt from turning and at the same to allow the bolt to be displaced in an axial direction when the nut is turned, the second face surface of the body being formed to provide a friction between the body and the object and therefore to impede the body from turning, and the first face surface of the body being formed with a smaller frictional characteristic than the second face surface of the body to at least reduce dragging of the body into turning by the turning nut; and a fastener is provided with such washer.
