A method and apparatus to mitigate radio frequency interference by a broadband mobile device by detecting, at the broadband mobile device, a geographically or physically proximate narrowband uplink transmission, wherein the narrowband uplink transmission is in close enough spectral proximity to at least one bearer channel of the broadband mobile device to result in interference on the narrowband reception when the broadband mobile device is transmitting and a narrowband mobile device is receiving, determining, based on the detected narrowband uplink transmission, a corresponding narrowband downlink frequency, monitoring the determined narrowband downlink frequency, detecting a narrowband downlink transmission at the monitored narrowband downlink frequency, and in response to detecting the narrowband downlink transmission at the monitored narrowband downlink frequency, modifying a broadband uplink transmission to ensure the broadband uplink transmission does not interfere with narrowband downlink reception.

Managing operation of a cognative radio by an authority

Performance of a radio device is optimized by estimating if the device is inside a building. One or more sensors on the radio device are used to measure an environmental quantities relating to the environment of the radio device. The likelihood of the radio device being inside a building is inferred from these measurements. The operation of the radio device then is controlled accordingly. For example, if the radio device is determined to be inside a building, a low operating frequency may be selected for the radio device if a wide area network connection is required, while a high operating frequency may be selected if a local connection is required. An environmental quantity may be, for example, a satellite signal, ambient light, temperature, RF energy, or the response to a test signal emitted by the radio device.

Method and apparatus for optimizing radio performance through inferred knowledge of indoor-outdoor radio status

An audio amplifier includes a digital signal processor (DSP) that contains a noise shaping quantizer having an integrating error amplifier. The integrating error amplifier contains integrators connected in a feedback loop, a summer supplied with an output of each of the integrators, and a saturation function module producing a saturation function. A multiplier is disposed between each pair of adjacent integrators. The multiplier receives a signal from one of the adjacent integrators and the saturation function and supplies a signal to the other of the adjacent integrators. The saturation function decreases the effect of all of the integrators except an integrator to which an input signal to the integrating amplifier is supplied using an input signal to and/or an output signal from the noise shaping quantizer. This permits the duty ratio of the output signal from the noise shaping quantizer to extend from 0% to 100%.

A power amplifier circuit for receiving a variable envelope input signal and for producing an amplified output signal is provided. The power amplifier circuit includes an envelope approximation circuit, an envelope amplifier circuit, a phasor approximation circuit, a quadrature modulation circuit, and a power amplifier. The envelope approximation circuit receives the variable envelope input signal and produces a bandlimited estimated envelope signal, corresponding to the amplitude of the variable envelope input signal. The bandlimited estimated envelope signal is then amplified by an envelope amplifier circuit. The amplified envelope signal is then coupled to the supply input of the power amplifier. The phasor approximation circuit receives the variable envelope input signal and produces a bandlimited estimated phasor signal. The quadrature modulation circuit receives the estimated phase signal and produces a modulated phase signal. The modulated phase signal is then coupled to the signal input of the power amplifier. The power amplifier then produces an amplified output signal.

Power amplifier circuit and method using bandlimited signal component estimates

To address the need for a power modulator that can efficiently operate within a wideband, high-speed communication system, a method and apparatus for power modulation is provided herein. In accordance with the preferred embodiment of the present invention an envelope reference signal is filtered in such a way that the bandwidth is reduced while keeping the instantaneous level of the filtered signal is greater than the unfiltered envelope level. Because the bandwidth of the envelope signal is reduced, efficient operation of the switching modulator can be achieved within wideband, high-speed communication systems.

Power modulator and method of operating a power modulator

A power amplifier circuit for receiving a variable envelope input signal and for producing an amplified output signal is provided. The power amplifier circuit includes an envelope approximation circuit, an envelope amplifier circuit, a phasor approximation circuit, a quadrature modulation circuit, and a power amplifier. The envelope approximation circuit receives the variable envelope input signal and produces a bandlimited estimated envelope signal, corresponding to the amplitude of the variable envelope input signal. The bandlimited estimated envelope signal is then amplified by an envelope amplifier circuit. The amplified envelope signal is then coupled to the supply input of the power amplifer. The phasor approximation circuit receives the variable envelope input signal and produces a bandlimited estimated phasor signal. The quadrature modulation circuit receives the estimated phase signal and produces a modulated phase signal. The modulated phase signal is then coupled to the signal input of the power amplifier. The power amplifier then produces an amplified output signal.

A low power regenerative feedback device and method automatically increases bias current during positive large-signal slewing, enabling output to change faster. When the device is not in a positive slew, bias currents are unchanged, providing a low standby current. Since regenerative feedback is internal and automatic to the device, current is increased only for the device driving an active column of an LCD panel. Thus, the present invention is power efficient. In addition, the AC response of the device is preserved because the device utilizes a regenerative feedback circuit that does not add appreciable excess phase shift. The device achieves an output that switches readily from positive supply to negative supply.

A transconductance filter (200) comprises multiple stages of a transconductor (110,120,130) having an input and an output, and a switch (260,265,270) coupled between the output and the voltage source. The optical response of the pixels of many flat panel display devices, such as liquid crystal displays (2), depends upon the spectral components, as well as the rms value, of the pixel voltage waveform during a frame period. Because each row and column electrode (10 and 11) addresses multiple pixels (14), the spectral voltage components of the voltage across any pixel during a frame period will depend upon the optical state of other pixels in the same column (11). This crosstalk phenomena can be greatly reduced by modifying the addressing signals. One method of modifying the addressing signals is to modulate them so that the spectral components of all pixel voltage waveforms fall primarily in a frequency band (54) in which the optical response is nearly independent of the frequency. Another method is to analyze (220) the spectral components of the pixel voltage waveform over a frame period before it is displayed and adjust (222) the amplitude of the addressing signals to compensate for the frequency dependence of the optical response. When using a gray scale addressing method involving an adjustment factor, such as one based upon virtual pixels (266), the value of each virtual information element (270) is multiplied by a correction factor to compensate for the different frequency components associated with the virtual row.
