A high current multi-layer parallel plane inductor is formed from a plurality of electrically conductive continuous layers folded back and forth to form a compact series inductor with each one of the plurality of electrically conductive layers having one or more layer pocket holes with layer edge notches forming one or more coil control pockets that generate a magnetic field pattern when alternating current is applied to the inductor.

A hand-held, water-cooled toroidal autotransformer assembly is formed from longitudinally-oriented electrically conductive radially spaced apart concentric pipes that are physically and electrically configured in series and arranged around a longitudinally-oriented toroidal magnetic core to form the windings of the autotransformer with the spaces between the longitudinally-oriented concentric pipes forming a flow path for a cooling fluid within the autotransformer.

Discrete workpieces move through a longitudinally-oriented through-gap in an open-box rectangular ferromagnetic material. A transverse magnetic flux established in the through-gap inductively heats the discrete workpieces moving through the longitudinally-oriented through-gap. A longitudinal axis of the workpiece or the planar surface of a planarly-oriented workpiece is oriented either parallel to, or perpendicular to, the transverse magnetic flux to heat treat the workpiece.

Apparatus and method are provided for electric induction heat treatment of electrically conductive thin strip material. Multiple series-connected coil loops, each having a pole pair, are provided in each of a top and bottom induction coil, which are positioned mirror image to each other. The top and bottom induction coils form a transverse flux induction heat treatment apparatus. A separate flux concentrator is provided over and on the side of each pole. The thin strip material passes between the poles of the top and bottom induction coils and the flux concentrators associated with each of the poles.

A braze joint is made between two workpieces by first forming a thermal shrink fit region between the two workpieces adjacent to, or around, a braze or filler region in which a filler metal is located adjacent to, or within. The filler metal is suitably heated so that it flows in the braze or filler region to form the braze joint of the two workpieces. Cutouts may be formed in the thermal shrink fit region adjacent to the braze or filler region to extend the braze joint region or provide paths for gas byproducts in the brazing process.
