Processes for reforming, and in particular aromatising, hydrocarbons from a petroleum source may be carried out by contacting the hydrocarbons with a catalyst of a zeolite KL impregnated with a metal promotor such as platinum, in which the zeolite crystals are of hockeypuck shape. The processes have a good yield and selectivity for the desired reformed products and the catalyst is stable, is associated with a low rate of coke formation, and has a long catalytically active life before regeneration is required.

Staged-Acidity Naphtha Reforming provides increased C.sub.5+ liquid yields by systematically adjusting catalyst acidity within a multireactor reformer to match the different acid strengths required to selectively aromatize naphthene and paraffin hydrocarbon as they traverse the reformer train.

A process for removing metal contaminants from a hydroconversion catalyst, said catalyst containing at least one metal from Groups VIB, VIIB or VIII supported on a refractory inorganic oxide. The process comprises contacting the contaminated catalyst with a buffered oxalic acid solution wherein contaminant is removed without dissolving the support.
