An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) includes a rectifier configured to receive alternating current (AC) power. The UPS further includes a first output connected to the rectifier through an inverter. The first output is configured to output an AC power supply. The UPS also includes a second output connected to the rectifier through a battery backup and a stepdown converter. The second output is configured to output a direct current (DC) power supply in response to a detected power anomaly condition, thereby providing extra redundancy that allows for increased power availability and uptime.

An electrical connector for transmitting electrical power includes at least one power pin with an ablative tip. The power pin has a body oriented in a direction of a longitudinal axis, and the ablative tip is at a terminal end along the longitudinal axis. The ablative tip includes a terminal edge and a support material positioned on a transverse side of the terminal edge that provides structural support to the terminal edge.

Systems and methods for improving safety on electronic device connections

A device for providing power to a server rack includes a first AC input port, a second AC input port, a first relay, a second relay, and an output port. The output port is electrically connected to both the first AC input port and second AC input port. The first relay is electrically between the first AC input port and the output port, and the second relay is electrically between the second AC input port and the output port. The first relay and second relay are configured to compare a first phase of a first voltage from the first AC input port to a second phase of a second voltage from the second AC input.

A fuel cell power controller tracks load current and fuel cell output voltage, and alerts on excessive fuel cell ramp rate, so another power source can supplement the fuel cell and/or the load can be reduced. A power engineering process makes efficient use of available fuel cell power by ramping up power flow rapidly when power is available, while respecting the ramp rate and other power limitations of the fuel cell and safety limitations of the load. Power flow decreases after an alert indicating an electrical output limitation of the fuel cell. Permitted power flow increases in response to a power demand increase (actual or requested) from the load in the absence of the alert. Power flow may increase or decrease in a fixed amount, a proportional amount, or per a sequence. A power controller relay may trip open on a low fuel cell output voltage or high load current.

Power modulation for fuel cell powered datacenters

A power cord is described that includes 'in-line' power control functionality. The power control functionality may selectively enable or disable a flow of electrical current through the power cord and/or selectively control an amount of electrical current that is permitted to flow through the power cord. The power control functionality may be activated and/or controlled through the receipt of control signals from an external device. The power cord may be configured to monitor the state of an electronic device to which it is connected and selectively activate and/or modify the operation of the power control functionality in response to the detection of a particular state of the electronic device. The power cord may also be configured to receive and analyze sensor data, and based at least on the analysis, selectively activate and/or modify the operation of the power control functionality.

A power supply unit (PSU) dynamically limits total recovery current. The PSU includes at least a power input, a power output, a historic maximum power draw memory, an update logic, and a recovery current limiting logic. Some implementations include a latest power measurement register, an hourly max power register, and a rolling max register, and controlling firmware. The update logic monitors a power level. The update logic updates the historic maximum power draw memory to match the monitored level. After a power interruption, the recovery current permitted to flow into the PSU is limited based on the historic usage. The recovery current may be limited in a constant, stepped, or ramped manner. The PSU may also provide power distribution. Multiple PSUs may be treated as a group, allowing an individual PSU to exceed its historic usage while the group's recovery currents are limited to the sum of historic usage levels.

Power supply recovery current history-based limitation

The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for testing storage device power circuitry. A storage device controller includes an embedded test program. The storage device controller executes the test program in response to receiving a test command. In one aspect, the test program issues a plurality of different command patterns to test shared power circuitry of storage device components (e.g., shared by an array of NAND flash memory devices). The test program identifies a command pattern that causes a greatest total current draw. In another aspect, the test program issues a specified command pattern (possibly repeatedly) to shared power circuitry to determine if the shared power circuitry fails.

Electrical power is provided to power consuming, heat-exhausting devices by multiple gas-fueled electrical power sources located near such devices. Exhaust heat from such devices is utilized as intake cooling air for the gas-fueled power sources, thereby excluding them from cooling capacity requirements. The gas piping delivering gas to gas-fueled power sources is positioned so as to be within hot aisles comprising exhaust heat. The gas piping is located up high for lighter than air gasses and near the floor for heavier than air gasses, with leak detection located nearby. Additionally, gas piping is externally coated with material that visually indicates a leak. By locating gas piping in the hot aisle, exhausted heat increases temperature and, thereby, pressure of the gas, resulting in more efficient gas distribution through the piping and preventing valve freezing. Furthermore, the gas piping is located after potential ignition sources in the airstream.

Various techniques for managing power backup for computing devices are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a method includes receiving data representing a backup capacity of one or more backup power units and data representing a backup power profile of one or more processing units sharing the one or more backup power units. A portion of the backup capacity may then be assigned to each of the one or more processing units based at least in part on both the received data representing the backup capacity of the one or more backup power units and the received data representing the profile of the one or more processing units.

Backup power management for computing systems

Aspects extend to methods, systems, and computer program products for balancing input phases across server rack power supplies. A rack manager can monitor individual Alternating Current (AC) phase currents at the rack level. The rack manager knows (or can at least determine) which power supplies are connected to which phase. The rack manager can micro adjust individual PSU output voltages to balance current phases at the rack level. Balancing can occur in response to changed server workloads, hot-unplug of one or more servers, etc. When there is one PSU per server, phase balancing can be accomplished by connecting outputs of power supplies together via busbar or wire. Output voltages of individual power supplies can be adjusted to achieve better phase balancing. Phase imbalance can be corrected by a bus bar or wire carrying enough load to correct phase imbalance.
