A device for controllably releasing a fluid into an ambient environment. According to a particular embodiment of the present invention, the device comprises a housing having a fluid compartment and an orifice compartment disposed adjacent thereto and in fluid communication therewith via an orifice. The fluid compartment contains the fluid for release to the ambient environment. The orifice compartment includes a fluid exit opening covered by a removable sealing element and contains an initial quantity of fluid when the device is in an inactivated state. A fluid restrictor is disposed adjacent the orifice to restrict fluid flow from the fluid compartment into the orifice compartment in the inactivated state. A gas-generating cell is in selective communication with the fluid compartment such that gas generated by the cell is directed into the fluid compartment when the device is in an activated state. A fluid membrane is disposed between the gas-generating cell and the fluid compartment that allows the gas generated by the cell to pass therethrough to the fluid compartment in the activated state while preventing fluid within the fluid container from passing therethrough to the cell in the inactivated state. The device is activated by removing the sealing element to allow the initial quantity of fluid to exit out of the orifice compartment via the fluid exit opening and activating the cell to generate gas and force fluid from the fluid compartment to the orifice compartment and out the fluid exit opening in a controlled manner.

Device employing gas generating cell for facilitating controlled release of fluid into ambient environment

The invention described herein is a framed fluid delivery device that is made up of a fluid-delivery cartridge for the timed-release delivery of a fluid contained therein, and a frame assembly for retaining the fluid delivery cartridge. The frame assembly is made up of a base portion that facilitates the delivery of fluid released from the fluid-delivery cartridge, at least one side panel associated with the base, and that secures the fluid-delivery cartridge within the frame assembly proximate the released fluid delivering means. Additionally, a fluid delivery device is disclosed that includes a fluid-delivery cartridge for the timed-release delivery of a fluid contained therein, the cartridge having a bottom, a top, and sides, and a dispersion pad positioned proximate the bottom of the fluid-delivery cartridge, wherein the dispersion pad at least partially surrounds the sides of the fluid-delivery cartridge.

The present invention is directed to a device for releasing a fluid. The device includes a housing having an interior region, a fluid contained within the interior region, and the ability to controllably release the fluid from the housing.

Controlled release of substances

The present invention is directed to a device for releasing a volatile substance. The device includes a housing having an interior region, a volatile substance contained within the interior region, and the ability to controllably release the volatile substance from the housing. Such controllable release can be accomplished by the housing being substantially permeable to ambient air, yet substantially impermeable to the volatile substance contained within the interior region of the housing. Additionally, the invention contemplates the use of one or more porous plugs for diffusing the volatile substance therethrough and eventually into atmosphere in a vapor form. To assist such diffusion, the invention likewise contemplates the use of an electrochemical gas generating cell, a heating element and/or other features which allow air to controllably enter into the interior region of the housing.

A zinc alloy anode-based electrochemical cell, which generates gases and/or energy, is disclosed. The structure of the cell is such that a zinc alloy anode material is the integral part of housing and is in contact with an alkaline electrolyte containing minor amounts of corrosion inhibitors. The electrolyte which contains no zinc powder metal, may be in direct contact with the cathode thereby simplifying cell construction by elimination of a separator material. The cell is environmentally friendly, containing no mercury or cadmium or other toxic metals and is cost effective as it eliminates expensive amalgamated zinc powder and separator material.

The present invention is directed to a device for delivering a fluid to the surrounding environment. The device includes a housing having an interior region and at least one opening, a fluid contained within the interior region, and a device means to force the fluid through the opening, and against gravity. Such a forcing device preferably comprises a gas generating pump, designed to force fluid positioned below the opening through a channel or conduit and out of the housing. Moreover, the opening in the housing may be associated with a member for controllably releasing fluid from the housing, for instance one or more porous plugs, an emanator pad, a decorative element or an adjustable valve. Additionally, the invention contemplates the use of a moveable member, such as a piston, flexible bladder, or expandable bladder, to separate the fluid from the gas generating pump and assist is forcing fluid out of the housing.

A storage stable fluid delivery device including a gas generator in which moisture (water) is involved in the gas generation reaction in which moisture containment is utilized to prevent or retard water loss as disclosed. The moisture containment may be a moisture impermeable membrane as a permanent part of the device and may be utilized in conjunction with the gas generator when the membrane has high gas permeability for the gas being generated. The fluid delivered by such device is typically a liquid having some particular utility in its environment. The liquid dispensed may be a pharmaceutical or some other liquid having a beneficial or curative effect upon an animal or human patient or it may be a liquid such as an insecticide, fumigant, fragrance or other liquid having a relatively high vapor pressure.

An improved, gas-generating electrochemical cell utilizing a metal hydroxide containing cathode is disclosed. An electrolytic cell having an alkaline electrolyte, a metal hydroxide-containing cathode and a carbonaceous anode generator, a gas uniformly for use in a fluid delivery device. The cells and fluid delivery devices are sized to be particularly useful for delivery of small quantities of fluid over a prolonged period.
