A battery management system comprising: at least one battery comprising two or more sets of cells, each set of cells comprising one or more cells; a multiplexing switch apparatus connected to each set of cells; and at least one controller configured to use the multiplexing switch apparatus to selectively discharge the sets of cells based on at least one criterion. A battery pack comprising: at least one battery comprising two or more sets of cells, each set of cells comprising one or more cells; and an integrated switching control system comprising at least one switch connected to each set of cells, wherein the integrated switching control system is configured to control the at least one switch to discharge the sets of cells sequentially or selectively based on at least one criterion. Multiplexed charge discharge battery management system

An electrode structure and its method of manufacture are disclosed. The disclosed electrode structures may be manufactured by depositing a first release layer on a first carrier substrate. A first protective layer may be deposited on a surface of the first release layer and a first electroactive material layer may then be deposited on the first protective layer. Subsequently, the first carrier substrate may be delaminated from the first release layer. The first release layer may then be removed from the first protective layer by dissolution in an electrolyte. The first protective layer may have a low mean peak to valley surface roughness and/or may be thin. In some embodiments, an interface between the first protective layer and the first electroactive material layer has a low mean peak to valley surface roughness. In some embodiments, a thickness of the first protective layer is greater than a mean peak to valley roughness of the first release layer. In some embodiments, an adhesive strength between the first release layer and the first protective layer is greater than an adhesive strength between the first release layer and the first carrier substrate.

Methods of forming electrode structures

An electrode structure and its method of manufacture are disclosed. The disclosed electrode structures may be manufactured by depositing a first release layer on a first carrier substrate. A first protective layer may be deposited on a surface of the first release layer and a first electroactive material layer may then be deposited on the first protective layer. The first protective layer may have a low mean peak to valley surface roughness and/or may be thin. In some embodiments, an interface between the first protective layer and the first electroactive material layer has a low mean peak to valley surface roughness.

Protected electrode structures and methods

An electrode structure and its method of manufacture are disclosed. The disclosed electrode structures may be manufactured by depositing a first release layer on a first carrier substrate. A first protective layer may be deposited on a surface of the first release layer and a first electroactive material layer may then be deposited on the first protective layer. The first release layer may have a low mean peak to valley surface roughness, which may enable the formation of a thin protective layer with a low mean peak to valley surface roughness.

A method and apparatus for protecting an energy-storage device (ESD), such as a rechargeable battery, is provided. A protective circuit protects an ESD from adverse charging and loading conditions including overcharging, overdischarging, charging at an excessive rate and discharging at an excessive rate. The protective circuit selectively disables charging and discharging based on the present terminal conditions. A plurality of ESDs and protective circuits can be interconnected to protect a multi-cell ESD device. Embodiments of the protective circuit are adapted to protect a lithium cell operating around 2 volts. The protective circuit may also protect the ESD from adverse temperature conditions.
