A modified casing coupling and burst disk assembly are used to prevent critical annular pressure buildup in an offshore well. The modified casing coupling includes a receptacle, or receptacles, for a modular burst disk assembly. The burst disk assembly is retained by threads or a snap ring and is sealed by the retaining threads, or an integral o-ring seal. The disk fails at pressure specified by the user but before trapped annular pressure threatens the integrity of the outer casing. The design allows for the burst disk assembly to be installed on location or before pipe shipment.

Apparatus for preventing critical annular pressure buildup

A method for preventing critical annular pressure buildup in an offshore well utilizes a modified casing coupling that includes a receptacle, or receptacles, for a modular burst disk assembly. Method for preventing critical annular pressure buildup

A method for manufacturing pipe joints for connecting two pipe sections in a well bore allows the pipe joint to have increased resistance to compressive and torsional forces. Each pipe joint has a box member for matingly engaging a pin member, the pin member being threadingly connected to the box member to create the pipe joint. Threads are created for the pin member on a tapered exterior surface of a pipe, the threads being axially disposed between a pin end terminal surface and an external shoulder. A tapered surface having a recess is created for the box member on an interior of a pipe, the tapered surface being axially located between a box end terminal surface of the pipe and an internal shoulder, the recess being axially located just behind the box end terminal surface of the pipe. Threads are cut into the tapered surface of the box member, the threads beginning behind the recess and traveling axially away from the box end terminal surface. Since the threading pass for the box member begins behind the recess, threads are not cut through the box end terminal surface giving, this surface an increased contact area. When the pin member and the box member are threadingly connected, the box end terminal surface engages the external shoulder of the pin member. The increased area of the box end terminal surface gives the pipe joint increased compressive and torsional resistance.

Method for manufacturing a flush/semi-flush threaded connection

A method of assembling pipe joints in a pipe string allows the circumferential orientation of a first pipe in the pipe string to be determined relative to a second pipe in the pipe string. Each pipe joint has a coupling member and at least one pin member, the pin member being threadingly connected to the coupling member to create the pipe joint. Threads are created for the pin member and the coupling member of each joint, and each pin member and coupling member is marked with an alignment mark. The threads for each pin member are created so that they are identical to the threads on the other pin members in the pipe string. This is done by gaging the overall rotational capacity of each pin member with a coupling marking gage and adjusting a thread depth as needed. After threading the pin members and the coupling members, the joints are assembled, and the alignment mark for each pin member and each coupling member is aligned with the alignment mark on each of the other pin and coupling members in the pipe string.
