An external ultrasound probe assembly capable of scanning a three-dimensional volume is provided. The ultrasound probe assembly contains a plurality of ultrasonic transducers disposed along a longitudinal axis of the probe assembly. The plurality of ultrasonic transducers is disposed on a mechanism operable to reciprocally pivot the plurality of ultrasonic transducers enabling the plurality of ultrasonic transducers to scan the entire three-dimensional volume. A helically disposed electrical interconnection member may be disposed about a pivot axis of the plurality of ultrasonic transducers and may electrically interconnect the plurality of ultrasonic transducers to an ultrasound imaging system. The ultrasound probe assembly may be fluid filled and contain bubble position control and fluid expansion compensation features.

Real time ultrasound probe

An external ultrasound transducer probe assembly capable of scanning a three-dimensional volume is provided. The ultrasound transducer probe assembly contains a plurality of ultrasonic transducers disposed along a longitudinal axis of the probe assembly. The plurality of ultrasonic transducers is disposed on a mechanism operable to reciprocally pivot the plurality of ultrasonic transducers enabling the plurality of ultrasonic transducers to scan the entire three-dimensional volume. A dielectrically-loaded helical antenna has a cylindrical ceramic core bearing metallised helical antenna elements which are coupled to a coaxial feeder structure passing axially through the core. Secured to the end face of the core is an impedance matching section in the form of a laminate board. The matching section embodies a shunt capacitance and a series inductance.

Antenna and an antenna feed structure

A spring loaded, high frequency, controlled impedance, coaxial probe assembly located within an insulated or conductive housing. A high frequency coaxial probe assembly consisting of a central contact which is fixed or axially floating within a controlled impedance connector body or assembly. A flexible, elastically de-formable, fixed or field replaceable and detachable, ground contact, snapped on and retained in place upon the controlled impedance connector body or assembly creating a fixed or axially floating reference plane or dimension from which the head of the probe contact will protrude through the controlled impedance connector body. The individual, high frequency, controlled impedance, coaxial probe assemblies are spring loaded to provide continuous axial signal contact, when deployed to a planar device such as a DUT (Device Under Test) board. The flexible, elastically de-formable, fixed or field replaceable and detachable, ground contact(s) provide a resilient and continuous wiping action. This wiping action removes oxides or material from the surface of the conductive elements of the planar device ground plane. This ensures contact with the conductive elements of the ground plane of the planar device, while reducing the inductance, by minimizing the total ground loop length between the outgoing and returning current paths.
