An electric motor-driven drill has an irrigating tube for squirting water onto a drill bur. The tube has convolutions surrounding the motor for cooling the motor and warming the irrigating water. A quick-release chuck holds the bur shank coupled to the motor shaft.

A high-speed, electric motor-contained bone drill has an elongate drive tube into which most of the length of a burr shank engages. Centrifugal discharge means at the inner end of the drive tube expell foreign matter, and a slide controls a chuck for the burr shank.

A prosthesis for replacing a defective stapes of the middle ear. A piston is provided for transmitting sound vibrations from the incus to the oval window of the middle ear. A clamp is securely attached to the piston for anchoring the piston to the incus. The clamp is capable of being easily bent to securely grasp the incus and is capable of maintaining that bent shape after the force causing it to be bent is removed.
