A vial enshrouded or contained in a protective covering which prevents emission of radiation form the vial contents, shielding the environment and personnel from irradiation. The vial optionally has a V-shaped bottom to allow withdrawal of a maximal amount of the fluid without inverting the vial. The vial is equipped with a vial access adapter having a fluid withdrawal spike which extends in to the V-shaped bottom. The vial access adapter may be vented or non-vented.

Tabletop drug dispensing vial access adapter

A vial having a V-shaped bottom to minimize the amount of medical fluid left in the vial at the end of the fluid withdrawal process. The vial is equipped with a vial access adapter having a fluid withdrawal spike which extends into the V-shaped bottom. The vial access adapter may be vented or non-vented. When the medical fluid is a nuclear drug, the vial and vial access adapter is enshrouded in a protective container containing lead to provide a safety to medical personnel from irradiation.

Table top drug dispensing vial access adapter

A prefilled syringe of cartridge barrel having a tamper evident closure. Tamper evidence is provided by: a frangible tip seal which is integral with the tapered tip of the barrel; a frangible tip cap covering the tip, the tip seal and a portion of the distal end of the barrel; and an overwrap covering the frangible tip cap and the distal end of the barrel sealed to the distal end of the barrel by a tamper evident seal. The tapered tip is optionally equipped with a luer collar to receive an external luer connector. Alternatively, the tapered tip can be provided with a bore therethrough which can be closed with an elastomeric plug and the external connector can be a tubing conduit.

Tamper evident syringe barrel

A syringe of improved ergonomics having an ellipsoidal barrel which contains an ellipsoidal plunger. The plunger consists of: a plunger tip of a rigid, non-elastomeric material which interfaces a medical fluid contained in the syringe barrel; and an elastomeric ring which slideably interfaces the inside wall of the syringe barrel. In one embodiment the plunger contains a plastic plunger insert which supports the elastomeric ring, the interior of which is provided with an ellipsoidal cavity. A self-aligning plunger rod having a ball portion on its distal end is inserted into the cavity of the plunger insert. The ball portion freely moves in the cavity and directs the external force exerted on the plunger rod in an axial direction.

Syringe barrel and plunger assembly having ellipsoidal configurations

Axially activated vial access adapter allowing repeated withdrawal of a medical fluid contained in the container by the use of a needleless device such as a syringe barrel or IV set having a luer connector. The axially activated vial access adapter includes: an elastomeric stopper having a cavity extending from its distal end to its proximal end; a bottom insert positioned in the cavity of the elastomeric stopper; and a top insert of tube-like configuration slideably positioned in the bottom insert. The top insert contains a plug on its proximal end, and a male luer connector on its distal end for attachment to a syringe barrel or an IV set having a female luer connector. Moving the top insert distally or proximally, the plug on the proximal end of the top insert opens or closes the cavity in the elastomeric stopper thereby opening or closing fluid communication between the medical fluid contained in the container and the syringe barrel or IV set having a luer connector.

Axially activated vial access adapter

A vial access adapter for withdrawal of a medical fluid contained in a vial which includes a vial access adapter body having a circular top wall with a plurality of vent holes, a circular second wall spaced from the top wall, and a cylindrical side wall which walls define a chamber for holding an anti-bacterial filter. A first spike centrally located in the vial access adapter body extends through the top wall, chamber, and bottom wall, with one end extending above the top wall terminating in a threaded luer connector, while the other end terminates in a sharp point. A flow channel extends through the first spike designed for withdrawal of the medical fluid from the vial. A second spike positioned parallel to the first spike extends from the second wall, one end of which extends into the chamber, and the other end terminates in a sharp point. A flow channel extends through the second spike designed for air flow from the chamber into the vial. An elastomeric membrane positioned within the threaded luer connector seals the opening in the vial access adapter. Preferably the elastomeric membrane is of M-shaped configuration capable of flexing under pressure and of re-sealing itself after being pierced by a luer connector or a syringe equipped with a luer connector.

Vial access adapter and vial combination

A vial access adapter for withdrawal of a medical fluid contained in a vial which includes a vial access adapter body having a circular top wall with a plurality of vent holes, a circular second wall spaced from the top wall, and a cylindrical side wall which walls define a chamber for holding an anti-bacterial filter. An elastomeric membrane positioned within the threaded luer connector seals the opening in the vial access adapter. Preferably the elastomeric membrane is of M-shaped configuration capable of flexing under pressure and of re-sealing itself after being pierced by a luer connector or a syringe equipped with a luer connector.

Vial access adapter

Rotary seal valve/container assembly allowing withdrawal of a medical fluid contained in the container by the use of a device such as a syringe or IV set having a luer connector. The rotary seal valve includes: an elastomeric stopper having a cavity; a rotary seal bottom insert positioned in the bottom portion of the cavity; a rotary seal top insert, equipped with threads and serving as a male luer connector, rotatably engaging the bottom insert. One or more holes are provided in the bottom inset and top insert which holes are alignable with each other, by rotating the top insert, forming one or more channels through which the medical fluid is accessed. Upon rotating the top insert in opposite direction the rotary valve can be closed. A removable cap positioned over the rotary seal valve maintains the rotary seal valve in aseptic condition.

Ellipsoidal syringe barrel

Multiple use universal connector designed for use in various containers having a fluid port for accessing to the content of the container or for transferring fluid into the container. The multiple use universal connector incorporates a diaphragm capable of being penetrated repeatedly by an access means such as a luer connector or a syringe having a sharp or blunt cannula for fluid communication between the content of the container and the access means. The multiple use universal connector re-seals itself after being penetrated and the access means removed therefrom.
