A mechanical split seal includes a tapered carbon split seal ring and a silicon carbide split mating ring. The tapered seal ring is compressed by a tapered seal ring shell which has a split 'O' ring disposed in the taper to provide even force and improved sealing. The shell is biased toward the seal ring by multiple springs retained by a non-split cup. The mating ring is supported by a gland which includes a split gland packing assembly for compressing packing material onto the shaft. Used as a pump seal, the seal can be cooled by circulation created by the fluid supplied from either the pump input or output.

High-speed easy-maintenance split seal

A mechanical face seal which includes a non-rotatable seal ring and a rotatable mating ring biased into rubbing engagement. The non-rotatable seal ring is disposed in a stationary housing and is axially biased toward the rotatable mating ring which is fixed to a rotatable shaft. An anti-rotation member is pressed into the housing and is engageable with the non-rotatable seal ring to prevent its rotation while allowing axial movement thereof.

Pressed in anti-rotation lugs for mechanical face seals

A split-ring radially expandable under centrifugal force for damping vibrations of a rotary annular bellows by pressing against the inner surfaces of at least some of the convolutions of the bellows as the speed of the bellows increases. Preferably, the split-ring is positioned in a channel for rotation with the bellows and for radial expansion as a function of the rotary movement, while restrained from axial movement with respect to the bellows.
