Disclosed are devices to improve the z-axis of confocal microscopes. The devices consists of opaque baffles placed in front of and behind the detection apertures of the microscope systems. By converting the baffles and detection apertures into light sensitive surfaces in an axial array, images from multiple planes of focus can be collected simultaneously with improved z-axis resolution. Several configurations for baffles and axial arrays are also disclosed for use with micro scopes employing pinhole detection and slit detection.

Device to improve Z-axis resolution in confocal microscopy

Disclosed is a rinse solution for rinsing organs and tissues prior to transplantation. The solution comprises, in one liter of solution: from 2 mM to 50 mM glycine; from 0.12 to 1.2 mM adenosine; monosaccharide, sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium ions; and water for injection sufficient to make a liter of solution; said solution having a pH of about 6.0 to 7.5 and a concentration of potassium of less than 6 MEQ/L. Methods of making and using the solutions are also disclosed.

Rinse solution for organs and tissues

A composition for storing tissue prior to transplantation is disclosed, wherein the tissue storage composition comprises a calcium channel blocker. Also disclosed is a method of storing tissue, comprising contacting the tissue to be stored with an amount of a calcium channel blocker sufficient to reduce tissue injury during storage under conditions such that viability of the tissue is maintained.

Disclosed is a rinse for preservation solution for organs and tissues selected for transplantation. The solution can be used at all temperatures from 0.degree. C. to normal body temperature and continues to be protective above 10.degree. C. Methods for preparing organs and tissues preserved in a preservation solution prior to transplant into a recipient are also disclosed.
