A solid hemostatic composition for use within a biological tissue at an internal treatment site includes a biopolymer configured to cross-link with red blood cells at the site to facilitate clot formation at the site, a first thickener that includes (hydroxypropyl)methyl cellulose (HPMC), a second thickener that includes animal-derived gelatin, and a bioadhesive that includes a low molecular weight poly(lactide).

Solid hemostatic composition and methods of making the same

Methods for the formulation of biodegradable microparticles for delivery of protein drugs, such as botulinum toxin, have been developed. The methods include the steps of precipitating and washing proteins with organic solvent to remove water prior to dispersing in polymer-dissolved organic solvent to prevent exposure to water/solvent interfaces and maintain bioactivity of the protein drugs and fabrication of microparticles by either template or emulsion method. Biodegradable microparticles, formed of one or more biodegradable polymers having entrapped in the polymer one or more protein agents, such as botulinum toxin, are also provided. Precipitated botulinum toxin and botulinum toxin-loaded microparticles can also be formulated into thermogels or crosslinked hydrogels. The stability of the protein within these microparticles, as well as the controlled release of the entrapped agents, provides for sustained efficacy of the agents.

Biodegradable polymer formulations for extended efficacy of botulinum toxin

A method of inhibiting bleeding from an open surgical site includes mixing (i) a flowable gel solution comprising a biopolymer dissolved in a first solvent and (ii) a flowable hardener solution comprising a cross-linking agent dissolved in a second solvent to form a flowable hemostatic gel composition. The method also includes applying the flowable hemostatic gel composition to the open surgical site. The cross-linking agent links chains of the biopolymer together to form a solid hydrogel that inhibits bleeding from the surgical site.

Flowable hemostatic gel composition and its methods of use

A flowable hemostatic gel composition is provided for use at a site of a defect within a biological tissue. The flowable hemostatic gel composition includes a flowable gel solution that includes a biopolymer dissolved in a first solvent. The biopolymer is configured to cross-link with red blood cells at the site to facilitate clot formation at the site. The flowable hemostatic gel composition also includes at least one additional active agent.

The present invention provides tissue expanders comprising biodegradable, chemically cross-linked hydrogels which are elastic in the dry state. These biocompatible tissue expanders are self-inflating and membrane-free. They swell slowly and elicit minimal negative tissue responses, while allowing for rapid and easy manipulation by the surgeon at the time of emplacement.

Housing apparatus for protecting a padlock includes plate elements securable to a door with an aperture in the back of the housing for receiving a fixed hasp plate secured either to a second door or to a door frame. The housing includes a slot in a back plate for receiving the hasp plate and an open bottom for receiving a padlock. A front plate includes an aperture through which a key may be extended into a front opening padlock.
