A fire-fighting hose nozzle or line nozzle, that is, a nozzle used to discharge fluid spray during fire-fighting operations, is accoutered for high water-pressure spraying of water or other fire fighting fluid by professional firefighters. Such a high-pressure can, for instance, put about 200 pounds (p.s.i.) or more pressure on a nozzle tip. The nozzle has a long, slender body member with a weighted and pointed tip, a discharge orifice at a position rearward of the pointed tip, and at least one transverse member, and in embodiments a plurality of transverse members. The transverse member most proximate to the proximal end of the body member functions both as a set of handles and as a stabilizing member. A second transverse member functions as a stabilizing member. The orifice is a slot angle-cut forward or backward from its mid-section which produces a wide and high fan-shaped spray in either the forward or backward direction. A set of such nozzles might include one nozzle for forward discharge and one for backward discharge. A method of using such a nozzle includes inserting the nozzle at least partially through an obstruction opening and discharging fluid backward, and includes lowering the nozzle down the side of a building to an opening, with the discharge orifice facing inward, and discharging fluid into the opening.

A steam turbine blade, such as those used in an electric power generation steam turbine, has an airfoil portion. The airfoil portion includes a metallic section consisting essentially of metal and at least one (lightweight) panel section not consisting essentially of metal. The metallic section extends from generally the blade root to generally the blade tip. Each panel section is an elastomeric section. The metallic section and the at-least-one panel section only together define a generally airfoil shape.

A lightweight steam turbine blade includes a metallic airfoil portion with at least one surface recess containing a void volume having adjacent first and second regions. Filler material is placed in and bonded to the surface recess and generally completely fills the void volume. The composition of the present invention is a miscible blend comprising a first addition copolymer and a second addition copolymer, each having a weight-average molecular weight of about 30,000 to 100,000 and a number-average molecular weight of about 5,000 to 50,000, and each comprising repeating units of (1) at least one of an aromatic vinyl monomer of the structure, ##STR1## where Ar is phenylene or naphthylene and R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are H or lower alkyl; and (2) at least one of (a) an acrylic ester of the structure ##STR2## where R.sup.3 is linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl and R.sub.4 is H or lower alkyl, or (b) a divinyl compound of the structure ##STR3## where R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are H, Cl, or CH.sub.3. The polymer composition comprises a miscible blend of the above-described first and second addition copolymers. The first addition copolymer further comprises repeating units of an acidic vinyl monomer, and the second addition copolymer further comprises repeating units of a basic vinyl monomer. Also in accordance with the present invention, an electrophotographic toner receiver for thermally assisted transfer comprises a substrate having a layer of a thermoplastic polymer composition on the surface thereof. The polymer composition comprises a miscible blend of the above-described first and second addition copolymers. Further in accordance with the invention, a method comprises the non-electrostatically transferring of small toner particles from the surface of a photoconductive element to the described toner receiver.

Control of the surface silanol density in silica fillers used in formulating heat curable rubbers enables control of the percent sealing force retention of the composite. Functionalizing the chemical agents used to effect such control adds additional means of controlling the physical properties of the resulting rubbers, especially silicone rubbers.

A fuser member useful for heat-fixing an electrographic toner to a substrate. The fuser member has a core and a layer overlying the core. That layer includes a cured fluorocarbon random copolymer having subunits with the general structures: ##STR1## where x is from 30 to 90 mole percent, y is from 10 to 70 mole percent, and z is from 0 to 34 mole percent. The layer incorporates particulate filler. The filler includes aluminum oxide and a material selected from the group consisting of alkali metal oxides, alkali metal hydroxides, and combinations thereof. The filler has a total concentration in the layer of from about 25 to 50 percent of the total volume of the layer. The aluminum oxide has a concentration of from 20 to 40 percent of the total volume of the layer.

The fuser member has a core and a base cushion layer overlying the core. The base cushion layer includes a crosslinked poly(dimethylsiloxane-fluoroalkylsiloxane) elastomer that has tin oxide particles dispersed therein in a concentration of from 20 to 40 percent of the total volume of the base cushion layer.

The invention provides a fuser roll useful for heat-fixing an electrographic toner to a substrate, wherein the roll comprises a core having thereon a base cushion layer comprising a condensation-crosslinked poly(dimethylsiloxane) elastomer, characterized in that the base cushion layer has tin oxide particles dispersed therein in a concentration of from 20 to 40 percent of the total volume of the base cushion layer. The base cushion layer of such a fuser roll has been unexpectedly found to exhibit only minimal weight loss, creep, and changes in hardness, over time, when subjected to conditions of elevated temperature and cyclic stress.
