A guide for individual movement machinery. The guide includes a base, a frame and a monitoring system. The monitoring system includes arrays of sensors affixed to each of the base and the frame to respectively sense guide conditions and to generate readings accordingly.

An elevator system includes a linkage, a control system and a friction belt drive. The linkage is adapted to attach to an elevator door. The friction belt drive is adapted to move the elevator door with the linkage between an open position and a closed position. The friction belt drive includes a v-belt with one or more markers arranged along a length of the v-belt. The control system is adapted to control the friction belt drive, and includes a sensor adapted to detect at least one of the markers.

An exemplary elevator system comprises a machine support () including a first portion () situated in a generally horizontal position at least partially within a hoistway (). A second portion () is oriented generally perpendicular to the first portion. The second portion has one end supported by a support surface () adjacent the hoistway such that a portion of a load of the machine support is transferred to the support surface. One end of the first portion () is supported by the second portion () and another end of the first portion is supported by a structural member at least partially in the hoistway such that a remainder of the load of the machine support is transferred to the structural member.

An elevator system () includes multiple elevator cars () within a hoistway (). Counterweights () are associated with the respective elevator cars () by load bearing members (). In some examples, different roping ratios are used for the load bearing members (). In some examples, the lengths of the load bearing members () are selected to allow contact between the counterweights () within the hoistway () and prevent contact between the elevator cars (). The difference in car and counterweight separation distances is greater than a stroke of a counterweight buffer plus an expected dynamic jump of the elevator cars. A disclosed example includes passages () through a portion of at least one of the elevator cars () for accommodating the load bearing member () of another elevator car () located beneath the elevator car () with the passages ().

An elevator system () includes an underslung car (). A plurality of load bearing members (-) are closer together behind the elevator car and spaced farther apart near a front of the elevator car (). A plurality of sheaves (-) are supported for vertical movement with the car and rotational movement relative to the car () such that the load bearing members (-) can be arranged in a 2:1 roping ratio and extend underneath the car (). A disclosed example includes sheaves (-) rotatable about sheave axes that are at oblique angles relative to corresponding edges of the elevator car ().

A roller guide assembly for an elevator system includes a plurality of rollers and a damping subassembly. The damping subassembly includes a plurality of dampers and a sound isolation mechanism. The sound isolation mechanism interconnects the dampers and provides sound isolation between the rollers and the elevator car. In a particular embodiment, the sound isolation mechanism includes a friction bar that interconnects the rollers and dampers.

An elevator system includes an elevator car with a plurality of roller guide assemblies attached thereto. The roller guide assemblies guide the elevator car vertically within a hoistway along a plurality of guide rails. Each roller guide assembly includes a friction damping subassembly to minimize vibration and lateral movement of the elevator car. The friction damping subassembly includes a grounding bar and a friction damper attaching onto a shaft of each roller in the roller guide assembly. The friction damping subassembly dissipates energy and improves the ride quality of the elevator car.
