An alloy includes a composition, in weight percent, of aluminum from about 1.3% to about 1.8%, cobalt from about 1.5% to about 4.0%, chromium from about 18.0% to about 22.0%, iron from about 4.0% to about 10.0%, molybdenum from about 1.0% to about 3.0%, niobium from about 1.0% to about 2.5%, titanium from about 1.3% to about 1.8%, tungsten from about 0.8% to about 1.2%, carbon from about 0.01% to about 0.08%, and balance nickel and incidental impurities. The alloy has a stress rupture life at 700&#xb0; C. and 393.7 MPa (57.1 ksi) of at least 300 hours and a room temperature percent elongation of at least 15% after aging at 700&#xb0; C. for 1,000 hours.

High strength thermally stable nickel-base alloys

An article, such as a turbine engine component, formed from a nickel-base superalloy, the nickel-base superalloy containing a &ggr;&Prime; tetragonal phase and comprising aluminum, titanium, tantalum, niobium, chromium, molybdenum, and the balance nickel, wherein the article has a time dependent crack propagation resistance of at least about 20 hours to failure at about 1100&deg; F. in the presence of steam. The invention also includes a nickel-base superalloy for forming such and article and methods of forming the article and making the nickel-base superalloy.

Nickel-base superalloys and articles formed therefrom

A gas turbine having internally cooled thermal barrier coated turbine blades is disclosed. The turbine blades are made from an alloy substrate exhibiting a low coefficient of thermal expansion, an intermediate bond coating and an exterior ceramic coating. Cooling fluid is supplied from the shaft of the compressor where it flows into and out of the turbine blade. Thermal barrier coated turbine blades result in more efficient gas turbine designs.

A process for producing an oxidic superconductor precursor alloy which comprises mechanicallly allowing metallic elemental constituents of the oxidic superconductor in stoichiometric proportions and in the presence of a process control agent non-detrimental to the superconductor to provide a uniform mechanically alloyed product which is compacted and worked to provide a product form such as wire, tape or thin strip. This product form can then be given the configuration required for use (e.g. open coil) and then oxidized to provide the superconductor.

Production of oxidic superconductors by zone oxidation of a precursor

A low coefficient of expansion alloy is coated with a thermal barrier coating having a low coefficient of expansion compatible with the alloy. The alloy, preferably a 900 series iron-base alloy, includes an oxidation resistant intermediate bond coating and a zirconia containing thermal barrier. An article of manufacture made from this material could be utilized in heat engines where close tolerances are mandated.
