An electrocoating cell preferably for use in a rotary turret machine for electrocoating a container or the like in an upright orientation, wherein all requisite coating medium inlet connections and electrical connections to the cell, as well as both the inner and outer electrodes, are carried by a single vertically movable cell assembly, preferably the upper part of the cell, which cooperates with a relatively vertically stationary cell base that carries the upright container.

An electrocoating apparatus for electrocoating a plurality of metal containers through coordinated cycling of a plurality of electrocoating cells, preferably in unison, through the requisite electrocoating operating cycle and including transfer means for moving the metal container to and from the respective electrocoating cells on a pass line through the apparatus.

Electrocoating apparatus

A method and apparatus are provided for electrocoating the interior and exterior of a metal container using a dual flow system. The interior and exterior surfaces of the metal container may be coated with the same or different coating weights. An electrically conductive probe, including a nozzle, is inserted into a metal container and an electrically conductive housing is enclosed around the container to seal the container therein. Two separate passageways are provided such that one passageway supplies coating material about the container between the container exterior and the outer housing and a second passageway is formed by the hollow probe and the interior of the container. Electrocoating material is caused to flow into each of the passageways. As flowing electrocoating material floods the container interior and exterior in separate transient baths, an electrical potential is impressed between the container and the probe-nozzle to electrocoat the interior of the container, and between the container and the outer housing to electrocoat the exterior of the container. A hollow electrically conductive probe and method are provided for electrocoating a metal container. The probe is insertable into the container, which is preferably inverted, and electrocoating material is flowed through the probe to fill the container with a transient bath of electrocoating material. The probe includes a means for retarding the flow of the electrocoating material from the container interior by establishing an opposing flow of electrocoating material to increase the flow turbulence without creating discontinuities of flow in order to facilitate the electrocoating of corners and recesses near the container bottom. Preferably, peripheral openings about the probe body direct flowing electrocoating material toward the container bottom.

Electrocoating flow control electrode and method

A method and apparatus provided for applying an electrocoat on the interior and exterior of a metal container simultaneously. The interior and exterior of a metal container may be either uniformly or differentially coated. An electrically conductive probe including a nozzle is inserted into a metal container and an electrically conductive housing is enclosed around the container to seal the container therein and to form a continuous passageway from the probe-nozzle to the outer housing. As flowing electrocoating material floods the container in a transient bath, an electrical potential is simultaneously impressed between the container and the probe-nozzle to electrocoat the interior of the container, and between the container and the outer housing to electrocoat the exterior of the container.
