A headphone with a headband and at least one earcup. The at least one earcup is movably coupled to the headband by a joint that is structured to allow rotation of the earcup relative to the headband about two mutually perpendicular axes, and translation along one of these axes.

An active vibration control device is provided that is configured to control the position of a body relative to a reference frame. The control device includes sensors that provide input signals corresponding to movement of the body in at least one direction, a rotary rotary actuator configured to control the position of the body, and four-bar linkage connecting the rotary rotary actuator to the body. The linkage converts the rotary motion output from the rotary actuator into a linear motion of the body. The controller, based on the input signals from the reference frame sensors, provides control signals to the rotary rotary actuator which acts through the linkage to position the body in the at least one direction relative to the position of the reference frame.

An audio device incorporates first acoustic driver at least partially overlain by a first acoustic reflector to define a first effective direction of maximum acoustic radiation and a second acoustic driver at least partially overlain by a second acoustic reflector to define a second effective direction of maximum acoustic radiation, wherein when the audio device is positioned in a room such that the direction of maximum acoustic radiation of the first acoustic driver is substantially perpendicular to the direction of the force of gravity, the first effective direction of maximum acoustic radiation is bent more towards a listening position at which a listener is expected to be located than the first direction of maximum acoustic radiation and away from a floor, and the second effective direction of maximum acoustic radiation is bent more towards the listening position than the second direction of maximum acoustic radiation and away from a wall.

Orientation-responsive use of acoustic reflection

An active vibration control device is provided that is configured to control the position of a body relative to a reference frame. The control device includes sensors that provide input signals corresponding to movement of the body in at least one direction, a rotary motor configured to control the position of the body, and four-bar linkage connecting the rotary motor to the body. The linkage converts the rotary motion output from the motor into a linear motion of the body. The controller, based on the input signals from the reference frame sensors, provides control signals to the rotary motor which acts through the linkage to position the body in the at least one direction relative to the position of the reference frame.

An actuator for an active suspension system includes an armature and a housing enclosing an interior. The interior has a volume that varies in response to movement of the armature. A wall of the housing forms a first aperture through which air passes in response to movement of the armature.

Self-cooling actuator

A digital absolute position encoder is provided for determining absolute position of a first member with respect to a second member. The absolute position is determined within a resolution cell of L/2.sup.n, where n is an integer and L is a predetermined span. One of the members has a plurality of, m, tracks of binary indicia distributed over the predetermined span, L, where m is an integer less than n. The other member has a plurality of indicia detectors disposed on the second member for detecting the binary indicia. With such an arrangement, an encoder is provided having 'a unit-distance code', yet uses less tracks than that used with a conventional Gray code encoder. Further, the encoder has a reduced number of transitions than that required on the track used with a conventional Gray code encoder. Both of these features simplify the design and fabrication for a given encoder resolution.

An active noise reducing headset has a high compliance diaphragm. Structure limits the maximum excursion of the diaphragm so that the voice coil does not escape the air gap. Structure, such as indentations in the diaphragm, prevent unrecoverable diaphragm collapse.

A low spring rate headset has at least one earcup with bands of approximately equal width nested together. An earcup is attached to at least one of the bands.

An improved cushion for use on a heater has a thin front skin formed with a circumferential groove. A thin flexible ring is attached to the circumferential groove. A flexible rear skin supports a foam ring and is sealed to the front skin so as to form a gel space. Structure, such as a retaining ring and mating holes and pins, attaches the cushion to the headset.
