A vibration and modulation system is provided for an array of air cells. The vibration and modulation system includes an air source, a high-pressure reservoir in fluid communication with the air source, and at least one valve coupled between the high-pressure air source and the array of air cells. A control assembly is coupled with the at least one valve and selectively controls a position of the valve to effect a vibratory action in the array of air cells.

Vibrational support surface

A specialty support surface for a variable width bed that can easily change its width from a wide bariatric mattress to a standard width so it can fit through a standard hospital door frame. The support surface can be placed on any bariatric bed frame that is designed to reduce its width to fit through a standard door. The support surface has the normal traverse air cells (used to reduce or relieve pressure). In addition, transverse air cells have independently controlled compartments on their ends. By inflating or deflating the controlled compartments, the length of the transverse air cells can be varied. These controllable compartments are controlled through an electronic controller by simply pressing a keypad on its touch panel. The electronic controller is used to control air pressure to the various compartments of the specialty support surface. The mattress replacement can be single or multi zone.

Adjustable width bariatric transport support surface

A portable closed wound drainage system that uses a pouch shaped dressing which is inserted into a wound. At least a portion of the outer surface of the pouchis porous to allow exudates to enter. Exudates are removed from the pouch by flexible tubing which is secured inside the pouch at one end, and secured at the other end to a portable drain/suction unit. The pouch contains porous material, and may optionally contain beads and fillers which are antibacterial in nature. The tubing can have a single or multi-lumen structure with perforations in the side walls of the end of the tube that is inserted in the pouch to allow body fluids to enter laterally. The portable drain/suction unit is preferably a portable battery powered device. The pouch and the tube are sealed by a flexible sealing material which is applied to the outer surface of the skin around the periphery of the pouch and the tubing as it exits the pouch. This sealing material is preferably a hydro-colloid, a silicone, or a lyogel, such as a hydrogel, which are easily deformable. A cosmetic cover sheet is attached to the patient's skin over the closed wound drainage system.

A cosmetic cover sheet is attached to the patient's skin over the closed wound drainage system.

A bed scale system includes at least one sensor frame having structure for generating a weight signal of a curved object such as a supporting wheel on a hospital bed or the like. The sensor frame includes a pair of spaced sidewalls defining a receiving area for the curved object, a bottom surface connected between the spaced sidewalls, and a deflection tab cooperable with the bottom surface. The deflection tab is deflected relative to the spaced sidewalls upon an application of weight to the sidewalls. A strain gauge is secured to the deflection tab and outputs a weight signal corresponding to the weight of the curved object according to a deflection amount of the deflection tab. The economical system provides patient weight without requiring removal of the patient from bed.

An alternating pressure support surface for use by patients requiring bed rest. The air pressure control system used by the alternating pressure surface dynamically controls air pressure in multiple inflatable compartments and further controls the cross over pressure as sets of inflatable compartments are simultaneously being inflated and deflated. A pressure transducer provides feedback which is used to dynamically adjust the output pressure produced by a pump to prevent over inflation or under inflation and ensure that cross over air pressure is properly maintained to prevent under inflation which results in bottoming out.

An air distribution device with a plurality of sheets is provided to prevent and treat decubitus ulcers. Air from an air source is provided between sheets of the coverlet which are air tight except for a plurality of very tiny apertures that are provided in the top sheet. The device is used between a support surface such as an alternating pressure mattress and a patient. The air escaping from the tiny apertures circulates around the patient to remove excess moisture from the patient's skin and wounds. The top sheet of the coverlet is made of a low friction nylon with an undercoating of a waterproof yet vapor permeable polyurethane. The top sheet has a plurality of apertures punched through the material. The central sheet is made out of the identical material of the top sheet, except there are no tiny apertures. The central sheet is a diffuser sheet, in that no air flow passes through it, but it spreads the air throughout the air tight portion of the device, allowing air to escape through the apertures in the top sheet directly to the patient. The bottom sheet is preferably a quilted synthetic material such as DACRON.TM. to provide a space for the vapor molecules, once they have passed through the coated nylon, to travel into and disperse.

Air distribution device for the prevention and the treatment of

A pulsating medical (surgical) operating table cushion comprising an air sac array having two groups of pneumatically expandable and contractible air cells respectively communicating with one another in each of the groups. An air pump supplies air under pressure to the cells in each group through a separate conduit pipe for each respective group. Solenoid valves direct the air flow from the air pump either into the first conduit or the second conduit based upon an air supply controller. A timer provided in the air supply control circuitry changes the sequence of the air control valves after a predetermined period of time passes.

Pulsating operating table cushion

A pneumatic device for therapeutic treatment of the skin and skin pressure areas of immobile patients seated in a chair, or a mobile wheel chair, which provides for alternating low air loss pressure sacs that are in contact with the seated patient that includes an air sac array overlay that is conveniently and quickly mounted to a bedside chair, or wheel chair, a portable air supply that can be attached for controlling the individual air sac alternating air pressures, the portable air supply housing being mounted on the side arm of a chair, or another location on a wheel chair, and a separate removable coverlet that is liquid impervious for incontinent patients while providing for sweat absorption for the patient seated thereon. The portable air supply can be quickly detached from the air sac chair overlay for use with a bed mattress air pressure alternating device. The portable air supply being battery powered when used on a mobile wheel chair.
