A mobile wireless communications system may include a mobile wireless communications device that may include a portable housing, a wireless transceiver carried by the portable housing, and a processor carried by the portable housing and coupled to the wireless transceiver. The mobile wireless communications device may also include a near-field communication (NFC) device coupled to the processor. An NFC carrying case may carry and communicate with the mobile wireless communications device. The NFC carrying case may include a base panel to carry the mobile wireless communications device, and a removable cover panel coupled to the base panel. The NFC carrying case may also include pairs of discontinuous NFC circuit segments carried by the removable cover panel and switch assemblies carried by the removable cover panel. Each switch assembly may selectively couple a respective pair of discontinuous NFC circuit segments to establish NFC communication with the NFC device.

Mobile wireless communications system including NFC carrying case and related methods

Both Bluetooth-compatible and Bluetooth Low Energy-compatible transceivers are selectively used when supporting wireless communications between two electronic communication devices such as a so-called smartphone and a hands-free accessory. During a first operating state the devices use Bluetooth and during a second operating state the devices use Bluetooth Low Energy. By one approach the first operating state correlates to when a first one of the devices is actively engaged in telephony and the second operating state correlates to when that first device is not actively engaged in telephony.

A wireless device for providing notifications associated with a mobile electronic device is provided. The device comprises: an indicator; a body enabled to mate with a mobile electronic device, the body comprising the indicator such that when the body is mated to the mobile electronic device, the indicator is not obscured by the body; an induction device for wirelessly receiving signals from the mobile electronic device to control the indicator; and, a circuit connecting the induction device to the indicator, the circuit enabled to receive the signals and control the indicator in response thereto.

A communication connector is described that provides an increase in the number and type of communication circuits available on an electronic device without increasing the number and type of physical connectors. The communication connector electrically includes a set of inputs to couple to both a USB 2.0 connector and a HDMI connector. A set of outputs from the communication connector provides a third connector with a pin out specification compatible with a USB 3.0 connector or a PCIe connector.

Various embodiments are described herein for a peripheral device and a method of identifying the peripheral device via power cycling. In one embodiment, the method comprises obtaining characteristic information about the peripheral device, encoding the characteristic information in a power signal at the peripheral device and sending the power signal to an electronic device that is operably connected with the peripheral device. The electronic device can then take action such as adjusting its settings or applications based on the characteristic information of the peripheral device.
