A building manager includes a communications interface configured to receive time-of-use information from a smart energy grid and a processing circuit configured to process the time-of-use information received from the smart energy grid to generate load shedding decisions for building subsystems or devices including determining when to utilize energy from energy storage equipment. The processing circuit is configured to determine an amount of greenhouse gas emissions corresponding to the load shedding decisions and convert the amount of greenhouse gas emissions into tradable carbon credits. The processing circuit is configured to generate a graphical user interface including modules indicating the amount of greenhouse gas emissions, the tradable carbon credits, or energy savings resulting from the load shedding decisions. The processing circuit is configured to rearrange, resize, or reconfigure the modules or change the modules for different modules in response to a user input or selection provided via the graphical user interface.

Smart building manager

A building manager includes a communications interface configured to receive information from a smart energy grid. The building manager further includes an integrated control layer configured to receive inputs from and to provide outputs to a plurality of building subsystems. The integrated control layer includes a plurality of control algorithm modules configured to process the inputs and to determine the outputs. The building manager further includes a fault detection and diagnostics layer configured to use statistical analysis on the inputs received from the integrated control layer to detect and diagnose faults. The building manager yet further includes a demand response layer configured to process the information received from the smart energy grid to determine adjustments to the plurality of control algorithms of the integrated control layer.

An energy storage system includes a photovoltaic energy field, a stationary energy storage device, an energy converter, and a controller. The photovoltaic energy field converts solar energy into electrical energy and charges the stationary energy storage device with the electrical energy. The energy converter converts the electrical energy stored in the stationary energy storage device into AC power at a discharge rate and supplies a campus with the AC power at the discharge rate. The controller generates a cost function of the energy consumption of the campus across a time horizon which relates a cost to operate the campus to the discharge rate of the AC power supplied by the stationary energy storage device. The controller applies constraints to the cost function, determines a minimizing solution to the cost function which satisfies the constraints, and controls the energy converter.

The present disclosure relates generally to energy demand and supply for buildings, vehicles, and equipment. In exemplary embodiments, energy may be stored in one or more battery packs (e.g., stationary batteries or vehicle batteries) for use in buildings, appliances, and equipment typically relying on energy from a power grid. The exemplary embodiments may store the energy during periods of low demand and/or low cost of energy. Thus, the exemplary embodiments may reduce costs associated with energy usage. The exemplary embodiments may use the stored energy to reduce demand on the power utility during periods of high demand and/or provide energy back to the power utility to meet demands.

Efficient usage, storage, and sharing of energy in buildings, vehicles, and equipment

A method and apparatus for improving the performance of Building Environmental Control networks by efficiently storing network routing information and by checking that the data exchanged between two computer applications operating on the network is consistent. The present invention efficiently stores network routing information by having the Building Environmental control network routers only store routing information when that router acts as a bridge for communicating that message further downstream. The present invention also checks that the exchange of data between two building environmental control applications is done by forming a special identifier from the existing data and using that identifier to validate data exchanges. The special identifier is formed by segmenting one field found within the data and having a portion of that segmented field be indicative of the identifying name of the data.

A method for determining the physical locations of devices located on a series connected network. A mapper routine located on the network severs a device from the network and then requests each device to respond with its respective node address to the mapper. Upon receiving the responses, the severed device is reattached to the network. This severing, requesting, and reattaching is performed for each remaining device on the network. The mapper routine determines the physical location of each device by correlating what responses from the devices were generated for which severed devices.

Method for automatically determining the physical location of devices on

A facility management system including facility control devices, monitoring arrangements, and actuating arrangements is provided. Each facility control device is connected to every other facility control device through a group of Integrated System Digital Network (ISDN) bearer channels (B-channels). Each facility control device is further connected to every actuating and monitoring arrangement through an ISDN data channel (D-channel). This facility management system allows each facility control device to communicate with all other facility control devices without any intervening communication processing by other facility control devices. Thus, this system does not create the throughput bottlenecks and reliability problems inherent in systems which necessitate such intervention. The components of this facility management system are networked over telephone lines, thus, the system does not require the installation of separate network lines between each system component.
