A building controller is configured to control one or more building system components of a building control system. In one example, the building controller includes a housing and one or more wiring terminals that are accessible from outside of the housing. A controller is housed by the housing and is operatively coupled to the one or more wiring terminals. The controller is configured to output one or more control commands on one or more of the wiring terminals. A managed network switch is housed by the housing and includes a plurality of network switch ports that are each accessible from outside of the housing and are each configured to be releasably secured to one or more network cables. The building controller is configured to receive user input for configuring one or more managed characteristics of the managed network switch.

A method of assigning IP addresses to devices of a building control network includes receiving a selection of selected devices of a plurality of devices from a user interface. The selected devices are displayed in a predetermined order on a display. A proposed static IP address for a first device in the predetermined order of the selected devices is received from the user interface. A static IP address is sequentially assigned to each of the selected devices following the first device in accordance with the predetermined order, assuming the subnet mask has been confirmed as valid. The selected devices in the predetermined order along with the assigned static IP addresses for each of the selected devices are displayed on the display. The assigned static IP address for each of the selected devices are downloaded to the corresponding one of the selected devices.

Batch assignment of IP addresses in a building control network

An HVAC controller provides control values to or more output ports of the HVAC controller. Operation of the HVAC controller is monitored for one or more irregularities. When one or more irregularities in the operation are identified, a hold mode is entered. The hold mode includes holding the one or more current control values on the one or more output ports of the HVAC controller until the one or more irregularities in the operation of the HVAC controller are corrected or a predetermined hold time expires, whichever occurs first. When the one or more irregularities in the operation of the HVAC controller are not corrected before the predetermined hold time expires, a back off mode is entered. The back off mode includes setting each of one or more control values on one or more output ports of the HVAC controller to a corresponding configurable back off value.

A building controller includes a housing, a plurality of inputs, a plurality of outputs and a programmable reset button. A memory stores programmable instructions pertaining to the programmable reset button. A controller is operably coupled to the memory, the plurality of inputs, the plurality of outputs, and the programmable reset button. The controller is configured to receive signals from the plurality of inputs and to provide control signals to the plurality of outputs that are based at least in part on the received signals from the plurality of inputs. The controller is further configured to implement one or more actions that are based upon the programmed instructions pertaining to the programmable reset button that are stored in the memory when the programmable reset button is activated by a user.

A system and approach that may provide power to network switches of controllers in a failsafe manner. For instance, when a controller is receiving normal power, the controller may act as a power over Ethernet (POE) source that supplies power to its connected Ethernet devices as required. However, if power to a controller is lost, then Ethernet devices may switch to a powered device mode and use power from a neighboring device to keep active. Some power may be tapped for network switch operation from any network switch port receiving power from another device. This may allow communication to remain operational across multiple devices in a string of which some have lost a source of normal power.
