Disclosed herein are processes for obtaining a microbial oil comprising one or more polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) from one or more microbial cells by lysing the cells to form a lysed cell composition and then recovering the oil from the lysed cell composition. Further disclosed herein is microbial oil comprising one or more PUFAs that is recovered from microbial cells by at least one process described herein.

A system is disclosed for drying a material to liberate a substance such as a liquid having a vapor pressure from solids and/or dissolved substances in the material. The system includes a plenum chamber and a blower providing a stream of air to the plenum chamber. An outlet communicates with the plenum chamber and a velocity accelerator is disposed downstream of the outlet. The velocity accelerator is arranged to receive air from the outlet of the plenum chamber into a progressively narrowing interior passageway terminating at a downstream choke point orifice. The choke point orifice discharges into a larger diameter discharge region. A throttle body is disposed in the discharge region and is selectively movable toward and away from the choke point orifice to decrease or increase the volume of the discharge region. A passageway is formed through the throttle body for receiving flashed material from the discharge region and conveying the material in a downstream direction. Also disclosed is a system for drying materials contained within a processing vessel wherein flash generators with vacuum throttles are used to maintain drying conditions within the vessel and to remove liberated substance from the processing vessel.

Non-thermal drying systems with vacuum throttle flash generators and processing vessels

Methods and systems are disclosed for drying a material or, more generally, flash evaporating a target substance having a vapor pressure threshold. The methods and systems include a conveyor conduit that receives material and within which a pressure is established that is greater than the vapor pressure threshold of the target substance. The material moves through the conveyor and is expelled into a pressure drop zone created by one or more venturi nozzles. The pressure in the pressure drop zone is far less than the vapor pressure threshold of the target substance. As the material encounters the pressure drop zone, the targeted substance in the material experiences a rapid and extreme pressure drop and simultaneously a rapid temperature increase. This causes the target substance in the material to flash evaporate virtually immediately. The resulting vapor is separated from the remaining material and the now dry material is collected for further processing or use. The vapor can be collected, condensed, exhausted, or otherwise treated depending upon the goals of a particular installation or process. The methods and systems are particularly useful for drying water from moisture laden material such as coal wash fines.

A head-gimbal assembly (HGA) is disclosed. The HGA comprises a head including a slider having a leading end and a trailing end that define a slider length. The head further includes a read transducer disposed at the trailing end. The HGA further comprises an adhesive material and a flexure that includes a tongue to which the head is adhered. The tongue includes three stand-offs in contact with the slider, each of the three stand-offs spanning a stand-off length that is one-half the slider length or less. Two of the three stand-offs are disposed adjacent the leading end.

An exercise device that simulates downhill skiing as well as thoroughly exercises one's body and cardiovascular system comprises a base support member that rests on the floor or ground. An elongate support member is pivotally attached to the base support member for pivotal, swaying movement about a longitudinal axis adjacent to the base support member. A biasing mechanism is associated with the elongate support member for exerting a biasing force to bias the elongate support member toward an upstanding position. A platform for supporting a person in a standing position thereon is pivotally attached to a distal end of the elongate support member. As the elongate support member sways back and forth, the platform moves in an arcuate, swinging motion. A forward member extends upwardly from the base support member and has hand engagement means which a person standing on the platform can grasp to maintain balance as the person pushes the platform downwardly in alternating movements first to one side of a vertical plane extending through the longitudinal axis and then to the other side of the vertical plane in a motion simulating turns in downhill skiing.

A write-read magnetic head for write-read digital recording machines includes a write magnetic head and a read magnetic head disposed in closely spaced apart relation. Each head includes a shield formed of a ferrous containing material having an opening therein in which the primary (write or read) gap is positioned. Each head includes a magnetic core comprised of a C-shaped core element and on I-shaped core element defining the primary (write) gap. A secondary gap is defined between the I-shaped core element and adjacent wall edge downstream of the write gap. When the recording head is energized, the shields and the secondary flux reduces flux leakages towards the read gap to permit effective reading while writing.

A magnetic tape head includes a pair of core holders containing the core elements of magnetic cores. The tips of the magnetic cores are urged towards each other when the core holders are clamped in abutting relation by a metallic U-shaped clip. The bight portion of the clip engages the tips of the magnetic cores and engages the inner surface of the metallic housing in which the core holders are positioned to ground the tips of the cores. The legs of the clip are urged inwardly with a scissors action by engagement with the inner surfaces of the housing to further exert a clamping action on the core holders and to thereby urge the tips of the core elements towards each other so that the flux gap is maintained.
