A device including blades and pins is mounted for interaction with a bedroll for separating or cutting a web or sheet of material as the web travels around the circumference of the bedroll. The assembly comprises a clamp having a bottom side and a front side. Two blades having an upper surface and a lower surface are provided, with a blade spacer located between the blades, and operably connected to the clamp. A blade from a nearby chopper roll is adapted to engage the blades of the device to separate a sheet as it travels along the processing pathway. A unitary elongated mandrel that is fixed in relation to the blade, and configured to carry or move a severed web, is provided. The unitary mandrel employs a strut from which projections or pins extend in a line or row, the pins being adapted to pierce and carry the severed tail of the web to a core for gluing the tail to the core, followed by winding.

Apparatus for severing, carrying or winding a web

A method for directly forming and finishing a web product is provided. The method includes forming a web on a forming apparatus, continuously transferring the formed web to a conveyor, performing a converting step on the web as the web is continuously supported and advanced on the conveyor, and finishing the web into a product substantially ready for packaging. A system for performing the method is also provided.

Methods and system for manufacturing and finishing web products at high speed without reeling and unwinding

A system and process for unwinding rolls of material is disclosed. The system is particularly well suited for unwinding soft, high-bulk tissue webs. In one embodiment, the system includes the combination of a center unwind device and a surface unwind device to unwind the roll of material in a primary unwind location. Once the roll of material is partially unwound, the roll is then moved to a secondary unwind location while a new roll of material is moved into the primary unwind location. In this manner, multiple rolls of material can be continuously unwound without substantial downtime. The system of the present invention can be used to unwind a single roll of material or can be designed to unroll multiple rolls of material simultaneously.

A system for winding webbed material such as paper toweling or toilet tissue upon a core is disclosed. The system comprises apparatus and processing steps. A plurality of elongated mandrels are adapted to receive cores slipped over their outer surface. Furthermore, a first conveyor having a drive device for moving mandrels in series along a drive train is provided. At least the first end of said mandrel is adapted for engaging the drive means. Further, a mandrel transfer station comprising a receiving mechanism for accepting cored mandrels is capable of winding webbed material upon the cored mandrel in a continuous process. A driving force is applied to at least the first end of said cored mandrel, thereby forming logs of webbed material. In some embodiments of the disclosure, a belt and pulley system is used to convey cored mandrels along an assembly line in a longitudinal manufacturing process.

Apparatus and process for winding webbed material upon cores

A rolled web of centerflow material, such as paper or non-woven material includes perforation lines separating the material into individual wipes or sheets. Each perforation line comprises a varying perforation profile defined by opposite edge portions and a middle portion having generally the same bond strengths, and intermediate portions between the edge and middle portions having a different bond strength. This perforation profile is effective in reducing dispensing defects, and particularly streaming/roping defects. Alternatively, the perforation line may have stronger edge portions adjacent at lest one weaker middle portion.
