A hanger bar for supporting a recessed light fixture is attachable to ceiling joists or a T-bar grid of a drop down ceiling. First and second bars of the hanger bar slide and telescope. First and second spring clips are detachably coupled to the brackets at the ends of the first and second bars, respectively. Each of the first and second clips has a pair of downwardly extending arms bent inwardly toward one another, a first leg extending from a first arm, a second leg extending from a second arm, and an outwardly-extending foot on the second leg. The spring clips snap on to the T-bar grid. Each bracket includes a nail that is angled away from the hanger bar and downward so that the nail head is below the level of the hanger bar. The angled nails enable easy hammer strikes to attach the hanger bar to ceiling joists without accidental hammer blows to the hanger bar.

A security lighting system is provided for convenient mounting to a standard electrical junction box. The security light fixture includes a housing, a cantilevered arm extending from the housing, and a back plate on an end of the cantilevered arm. The back plate has a reinforced attachment structure capable of supporting the bending moment of the heavy, cantilevered light structure. The attachment structure may include, for example, a reinforced cone. The back plate and cantilevered arm may be integrally formed for convenient manufacturing and added structural strength. The fixture may include a cross bar for attaching to the junction box, with the cross bar serving to interconnect the junction box with the back plate. In one embodiment, the security lighting system provides an option of electrically interconnecting the system to a standard j-box or, alternatively, to an electrical conduit, as desired. In another embodiment, the cross-section of the back plate may have a different shape than the cross-section of the junction box.

A lighting system producing a light pattern that is customized in the field by the end user to minimize light pollution. A housing supports a light source that is connected to a power supply. The housing defines an interior chamber. An opaque or low visible light transmissivity shield is bent or formed into a generally tubular shape and is inserted into the chamber surrounding the light source. The shield includes folds, perforations, pre-scoring, grooves, and the like defining sections that can be easily detached to create windows. The windows permit outgoing light to pass while the remaining areas of the shield attenuate or block the outgoing light. The shield includes teeth that engage respective recesses in the housing to prevent rotation of the shield once installed.

A lighting system including a mount for one person installation to a support surface having a rigid conduit supplying electrical wires. The lighting system includes a housing containing a light source. A hollow suspension arm extends from the housing and a back plate is located on the arm opposite the housing. The suspension arm includes a removable bottom access plate with a knock-out blank to provide optional wiring access, and the back plate includes a frangible portion. An impact blow creates an opening in the frangible portion that leads into the hollow arm. Straight and curved extension sections are provided for optional attachment to the rigid conduit. The rigid conduit is inserted through the opening in the back plate and into the arm thus suspending the lighting system therefrom.

A work light frame for holding a lens to an electric halogen work lamp is disclosed. The work light frame has a front and a back, and preferably has a channel-shape cross-section. A storage compartment for holding a spare bulb is incorporated into the back of the frame and is recessed within the channel-shape cross-section. The storage compartment is covered by a door and has bulb retention structures therein. Preferably, the storage compartment is located at the top of the frame and the frame is hingeably attached to the lamp at the bottom.
