A valve body includes a chamber for the flow of fluid between an inlet and an outlet thereto. The chamber includes an upper portion with an opening therethrough and a lower portion including a valve seat between the inlet and outlet. A bonnet is positioned in the chamber upper portion and is connected to the valve body and extends upwardly therefrom. The bonnet includes a passageway, and a stem is positioned in the passageway for longitudinal movement into and out of sealing relation with the valve seat. An air operator is connected to the upper end of the stem and is connected to a source of fluid under pressure, such as compressed air, which is supplied by remote control to the air operator to control reciprocation of the stem to open and close the valve. The air operator includes a base connected to the bonnet in surrounding relation with the stem and positioned in spaced relation with a piston connected to the upper end of the stem to thereby form a fluid chamber. A housing encloses the piston and the base. Pressurized air is admitted and released to and from the chamber for reciprocating the piston to open and close the valve. A compression spring acts on the stem to normally maintain the valve closed. Supplying compressed air to the chamber exerts an upward force on the piston to raise the stem and compress the spring to open the valve. Sliding seal means is provided on the piston for maintaining a seal between the piston and housing as the piston is reciprocated. The housing is rotatably supported on the base to permit selective positioning of the passageway to accommodate connection of the air operator to a source of compressed air.

Pneumatic shut-off valve

A valve body includes a chamber for the flow of fluid between an inlet and an outlet thereto. The chamber includes an upper portion with an opening therethrough and a lower portion including a valve seat between the inlet and outlet. A bonnet is positioned in the chamber upper portion and is connected to the valve body and extends upwardly therefrom. The bonnet includes a passageway, and a stem is positioned in the passageway for longitudinal movement into and out of sealing engagement with the valve seat. An actuator is rotatably positioned in the bonnet passageway above the stem. A micrometer operating handle is nonrotatably connected to the upper end portion of the actuator to facilitate fine adjustment of the stem position to provide incremental adjustments in the flow rate of fluid between the inlet and outlet. The stem upper end is spaced from the actuator lower end in the bonnet passageway, and a coupling assembly rigidly connects the actuator to the stem for conversion of longitudinal rotational movement of the actuator to nonrotational longitudinal movement of the stem. The coupling assembly includes a housing into which both the actuator and stem extend. The housing is retained on the end of the actuator, and a pin connects the housing to the stem. A bushing is positioned between the adjacent ends of the actuator and stem where one surface of the bushing abuts the actuator and an opposite surface abuts the stem. The stem is sealed in a bellows which exerts an upward compressive force upon the stem to maintain the actuator and stem in contact with the bushing so that, as the actuator rotates, the stem moves longitudinally relative to the valve seat.

Metering valve

A hollow tubular body is welded to a distribution pipeline in surrounding relation with a cut-out portion of the pipeline. A plug assembly is inserted through an opened gate valve attached to the tubular body and into engagement with the tubular body. The gate valve is removed and an operator device is attached to the plug assembly. The plug assembly includes an expandable portion and an insert portion. The expandable portion includes an enlarged first chamber and a reduced second chamber. A plug assembly guide is positioned between the expandable portion and the insert portion. A nonrising actuating stem is rotated to nonrotatably move the plug assembly guide to advance the expandable portion through the tubular body and the cut-out portion to a position abutting the bottom of the pipeline for expansion of the expandable portion. Continued rotation of the stem downwardly advances the plug assembly guide to exert a first force externally and downwardly upon the expandable portion and move the insert portion into the expandable portion reduced second chamber to exert a second force internally and radially outwardly upon the expandable portion. Thus the expandable portion is expanded outwardly into sealing relation with the pipeline to block flow in the pipeline.
