An implantable medical article as well as an implantable fiber which is particularly useful for medical implants is disclosed. The fiber includes comprises a first component formed from a substantially resorbable material and a second component formed from a fiber-forming polymer.

Implantable fibers and medical articles

Heatset, textured (e.g. stuffer box textured), continuous filament, nylon carpet yarn useful for making textured carpets is disclosed. The yarn is made from nylon 66 copolymer. Textured carpets made from the yarns of the invention have improved aesthetics and/or appearance retention characteristics as compared to textured carpets made from nylon 66 carpet yarns.

Copolymeric yarns for textured carpets

Yarn suitable for use in making cut pile trackless carpet is disclosed. The yarn is composed of two continuous filament singles yarn cabled together with from 3.5 to 5.0 turns per inch (2.54 cm) of twist. Each singles yarn is tangled and contains substantially no twist. The yarn is characterized, in that, each singles yarn comprises, in addition to crimped carpet filaments, filaments having no crimp and a high degree of shrinkage. The yarn develops texture during conventional heatsetting of the yarn without the use of mechanical crimping.

Continuous filament yarn for trackless carpet

An improved partially-oriented nylon 66 (PON) spinning process and product are provided by increasing the molecular weight well above the levels customary for apparel end uses.

Partially oriented nylon yarn and process

A polyamide (preferably nylon 66) partially oriented feed yarn contains a small amount of branching agent and has an elongation between 45 and 150%. The feed yarn can be textured by the friction twist process to yield a textured yarn having crimp development similar to yarn textured by the much more expensive pin twist method.

In a partially oriented nylon feed yarn for drawtexturing, the filaments have sheaths containing a branching agent while the cores do not. Exceptional crimp development is achieved in the resulting textured yarn.

Provided is a process for forming and modifying a self-crimping polyester yarn comprising a plurality of polyester filaments having thick and thin regions along their lengths which are out of phase from filament to filament. The plurality of filaments are produced by first forming a plurality of combined streams of molten melt spun polyester by combining at least first and second extruded molten streams of fiber forming polyester travelling at different extrusion speeds to thereby form thick and thin regions in the combined streams out of phase from other combined streams. The combined streams are then quenched and thereby transformed into solid filaments in a solidification zone provided with a gaseous atmosphere at a temperature below the glass transition temperature of the polyester. The resulting filaments are then passed in the direction of their lengths through a conditioning zone, which zone is provided with a gaseous atmosphere at a temperature sufficient to produce polyester filaments which exhibit a percent yarn shrinkage in the range of from about 10 to about 45 percent. The resulting filaments are withdrawn from the conditioning zone at a substantially constant wind-up speed. The yarn thus obtained still exhibits a useful degree of crimp as well as properties similar to those observed in yarns spun at much higher wind-up speeds.

Process for producing self-crimping polyester yarn

An improved refrigerator cabinet construction is described which comprises, in laminated sequence, a metal outer layer, a foam layer, a composite release film and, strongly bonded thereto, an ABS layer. The laminate has a strong bond between all but two of the various contiguous layers and a weak bond between the remaining pair of contiguous layers, such that when the laminate is cycled between room temperature and -22.degree. C., only the weak bond is ruptured, the location of the weak bond being such that, in the event it were to be ruptured, the ABS layer and the portion of the laminate remaining adhered thereto would be reprocessable to produce an ABS with a Gardner impact strength that is at least 85% of that of the original ABS sheet incorporated in the laminate.

Refrigerator construction

A particular elastomeric polyurethane polymer is heated to about 225.degree.C. to ensure complete melting prior to extrusion side-by-side with a molten hard polymer. The polyurethane polymer is made from an aromatic diisocyanate, a high molecular weight (800-3000) diol and a low molecular weight (500 or less) diol, combined in specific ratio ranges.
