A method of machining ceramic matrix composite components includes providing an ultrasonic vibration tool having a tool tip, and exciting the tool by providing a control current, such that the tool tip is repeatedly vibrated towards and away from a ceramic matrix composite workpiece. A slurry feed is supplied including abrasive particles to a surface to be machined by the tool tip. A vibration amplitude of the tool tip is controlled by sensing load on the tool and communicating with a computing device. The computing device controls the vibration amplitude of the tool tip. The computing device is provided with at least one memory programmed with historic data, and is operable to modify the vibration amplitude signal being sent to the tool, and comparing resulting load levels due to the change in vibration amplitude signals, and storing the change in vibration amplitude signals at the memory.

Adaptive vibration amplitude for impact grinding of ceramic matrix composite components

A ceramic matrix composite includes a plurality of ceramic fibers and an interface coating disposed on the plurality of ceramic fibers. The interface coating includes a carbon-based layer disposed on each ceramic fiber of the plurality of ceramic fibers and a boron-nitride based layer disposed on the first carbon-based layer. The ceramic matrix composite also includes a ceramic matrix surrounding the plurality of ceramic fibers. A ceramic matrix composite and a method of forming a ceramic matrix composite component are also disclosed.

Ceramic component

A ceramic matrix composite includes a ceramic matrix, fibers embedded in the ceramic matrix, and an interfacial coating system on each of the fibers. The interfacial coating system includes alternating layers of boron nitride layers of individual thicknesses of about 50 nanometers to 200 nanometers and carbon layers of individual thicknesses of less than 5 nanometers.

Apparatuses and methods are disclosed that allow for the detection, identification and direction finding of search and rescue beacons in a variety of environments. The techniques may be used to identify a line of bearing (LOB) to 121.5 MHz rescue beacons found in aircraft (ELTs), marine beacons (EPIRBs), and personal locator beacons (PLBs). Multiple lines of bearing may be used to geo-locate a target emitter if so desired. The methods may utilize, for example, a handheld device that is designed for search and rescue activity. Additionally, this device may be able to decode a 406 MHz frequency beacon that communicates with the satellite system that is controlled by COSPAS SARSAT. This constellation of rescue satellites coordinates the location of 406 MHz rescue beacons.

A thermodynamic terminator and a method of eliminating mites and parasites within a bee box. The thermodynamic terminator includes a housing having a lower panel with a fan aperture, an air intake, and an interior wall for supporting a divider panel. The divider panel extends from a sidewall of the housing to form a first compartment and a second compartment. A heating element is positioned within the first compartment and can regulate heat within the first compartment and the bee box. When the thermodynamic terminator is mounted to the bee box and activated, air is heated by the heating element and forced into the bee box by a system fan. The heated air is circulated within the bee box and forced to return to the first compartment via the air intake. A controller regulates the heating temperature and period of activation.
