Provided is a process comprising receiving overflow of wastewater influent from a clarifier basin in a clarifier effluent collection trough; receiving inflow of wastewater influent from the clarifier effluent collection trough in a filter influent flow inlet distribution channel; maintaining substantially constant liquid level in the filter influent inlet distribution channel; applying hydrostatic pressure to push wastewater influent from the filter influent flow inlet distribution channel into an upflow backwash filter contusing denitrifying biomass or deammonification biomass; backwashing the backwash filter with a gas lift backwash flow; returning filter reject backwash wastewater from rejection compartment of the filter through denitrifying bacteria or deammonification biomass recycle return line to a location upstream of the filter; and recycling denitrifying bacteria or deammonification biomass from denitrifying bacteria or deammonification biomass recycle return line to at least one of the clarifier effluent collection trough, filter influent flocculation tank, or filter influent flow distribution channel.

Method of operating an upflow backwash filter

A method of treating wastewater is disclosed in which a flow equalization reactor is provided that includes at least one wastewater treatment zone. A first wastewater treatment process is performed in the at least one wastewater treatment zone, which can be switched to a second wastewater treatment process. The flow equalization reactor is designed with a variable liquid depth and volume that can operated as a mixed wastewater zone, an anaerobic reactor zone, an anoxic reactor zone or an aerobic reactor zone. The equalization reactor provides sufficient variable liquid depth and volume above a minimum liquid depth and residual volume to provide the necessary hydraulic flow equalization or surge volume to achieve a relatively constant effluent pumping rate or feed forward flow rate over 24 hours per day, seven days per week into the downstream biological treatment processes, clarifiers, filters, or disinfection units, etc.

Processes, methods, and systems are disclosed for treatment and removal of peracetic acid (PAA), quaternary ammonia compounds (Quat), hydrogen peroxide, chlorine, chloramines, chlorinated organics, surfactants, and other such chemicals from wastewater pretreatment processes typically employed by livestock processing, meat processing, and/or food processing plants that generate wastewater outflows. Treatment and/or removal of these chemicals commonly found in such wastewater allows the further treatment of the wastewater downstream by commonly employed biological wastewater treatment processes such as anaerobic, anoxic, or aerobic suspended growth activated sludge processes; anaerobic, anoxic, or aerobic fixed growth, IFAS, moving bed bioreactor (MBBR) or Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) processes; anaerobic lagoons; anaerobic fluidized bed or fixed bed processes; and/or, anaerobic sludge digestion processes commonly employed for biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) removal, ammonia removal, total nitrogen removal, and/or phosphorus removal.

Wastewater detoxification method and system

A flexible industrial air filter system including a plurality of workstations, air filter units and a plurality of duct sections interconnected together to define a modular duct work grid. T-connectors are mounted between some of the sections with the workstations and air filter units positioned generally adjacent the T-connectors. Connection ducts interconnect the T-connectors and either the workstations or air filter units. Quick release connectors connect the connection ducts to the T-connectors and to the work stations and the air filter units such that the workstations and air filter units can be quickly added, removed, moved, and repositioned as desired.

A common final clarifier is provided downstream of a two-stage or three-stage activated sludge (AS) system that includes: (A) one or more flow equalization basin (FEB) reactors and a nitritation reactor as the first AS stage, and an anammox reactor as the second AS stage, or (B) a carbonaceous biological oxygen demand (BOD) removal reactor and one or more FEBs as the first AS stage, a nitritation reactor as the second AS stage, and an anammox reactor as the third AS stage. A first return activated sludge (RAS) flow is conducted from the final clarifier to the first AS stage and a second segregated RAS flow is conducted to the second AS stage. Alternatively, a third segregated RAS flow is conducted to the third AS stage.

An upflow continuous backwash deep bed sand filter (UCBF) having a recycle line for returning carbonaceous denitrifying bacteria attached to biomass to the influent of the UCBF. The recycle line returns the biomass to the treatment process at a location upstream of the upflow continuous backwash filter. Further, a liquid level control unit is provided that reduces fluctuations and significant drop in the liquid level upstream of the upflow continuous backwash filter, thereby avoiding or minimizing flow turbulences, air induction, and undesirable wastewater aeration resulting in the need to dose excessive carbon source to remove dissolved oxygen in the aerated wastewater.

A filter media cartridge and method of making filter media wherein the filter media has a plurality of folds formed into a tube with an internal support core supporting the media material. A plurality of retention bands mounted about the filter media to retain the filter media in position and prevent media from expanding outwardly sufficiently to damage the filter media. At least a one glue bead located circumferentially about the filter media. The glue bead adhering adjacent folds of the media together to provide support and regular spacing of the folds so that the folds are prevented from collapsing with respect to one another.

Filter media cartridge

An air filtering system and method for self-cleaning the same is provided. The system has a plurality of air filters including a first filter and at least one neighboring filter. A blower fan pulls air through the filters. A plurality of compressed air injectors are provided adjacent the filters including a first injector and at least one neighboring injector. Self-cleaning is achieved while the blower fan is running by preforming several steps including activating the first injector to force compressed air into the first filter and discharge particulate from the first filter followed by deactivating the first injector. The steps further provide reactivating the first injector and simultaneously activating the neighboring injector while the discharged particulate is airborne to provide an air shield about the first filter and force the discharged particulate away from the first filter and the neighboring filter. These steps are repeated for each filter.

A common final clarifier is provided downstream of a two-stage activated sludge (AS) system that includes a flow equalization basin (FEB) reactor and a nitritation reactor as the first AS stage and an anammox reactor as the second AS stage. A first return activated sludge (RAS) flow is conducted from the final clarifier to the first AS stage with a low flow rate and a second segregated RAS flow is conducted to the second AS stage with a high flow rate. The FEB reactor is operated as an anoxic reactor to achieve carbonaceous BOD removal; conversion of organic nitrogen to ammonia nitrogen; and, denitrification of recycled nitrite or nitrate nitrogen. The nitritation reactor is operated as an aerobic reactor to achieve oxidation of ammonia nitrogen to nitrite nitrogen by biological nitritation. The anammox reactor is operated at zero or very low dissolved oxygen concentration to achieve nitrogen removal by deammonification.

A flow equalization reactor for a multi-stage activated sludge process for treating industrial wastewater and/or municipal sewage is divided into two or more treatment zones. An outflow from a first treatment zone is mixed with an outflow from the second treatment zone in a mixer and conveyed to a third stage reactor containing anaerobic, autotrophic ammonia oxidizing anammox bacteria for converting nitrite nitrogen to nitrogen gas. The relative amounts of the outflows from the first and second treatment zones are controlled to promote and optimize the growth and accumulation of the anammox biomass in the third stage reactor.

Moving bed media serving as a growth surface for bacteria that remove soluble carbonaceous BOD, soluble inorganic ammonia nitrogen, phosphorous, nitrate nitrogen or nitrite nitrogen from wastewater are contained in a variable liquid depth, variable volume, hydraulic flow equalization basin. The equalization basin can be divided into different treatment sections by installing separator screens. Fat accumulation on the moving media, which could cause the media to float or in some other way cause the media to be ineffective, can be prevented by a fat, oil, and grease removal process in a dissolved air flotation cell upstream of the flow equalization basin containing the moving bed media. The moving bed media are retained in the basin by a suitable media screen as the liquid level and volume increases or decreases in the basin depending upon the effluent pumping rate vs. the influent flow rate.
