Cross-flow filtration systems and corresponding methods for separation particulate matter from liquids. A representative system includes a cross-flow filtration zone () in fluid communication with a particulate settling zone () and further includes a fluid inlet () in fluid communication with one of the zones and a process fluid outlet () and in fluid communication with the other zone. A fluid treatment pathway () extends from the fluid inlet (), through the cross-flow filtration and particulate settling zones () to the process fluid outlet (). A filter assembly () is located within the cross-flow filtration zone () and comprises a membrane surface () that isolates a filtrate chamber () from the fluid treatment pathway (), and the filtrate chamber () is in fluid communication with a filtered fluid outlet (). A recirculation pump (Z) in fluid communication with the process fluid outlet () and fluid inlet (). A pressurizable recirculation loop (A) comprises the fluid treatment pathway () and recirculation pump (Z) and the recirculation pump (Z) is adapted for driving pressurized through the recirculation loop (A). A feed pump (Y) is adapted to introduce feed liquid into the system (); and an effluent outlet () in fluid communication with the particulate settling zone (). The feed pump (Y), effluent outlet () and filtered fluid outlet () reside outside of the recirculation loop (A).

Filter assemblies and fluid flow inhibitors that are particularly well suited for use in centrifugal separation enhanced filtration devices are described. Moreover extensible filter assemblies are described. In one aspect of the invention, extensible filtration assemblies can be used to operate in circulating fluid filtration devices. Such extensible filter elements can use fluid manifold to reduce the effects of fluid circulation inside filter elements and to reduce reverse flow problems in such filters. Additionally, indexable filter elements and invertable filtration elements can be used to extend filter life in filtration in filtration devices.

Apparatus and method for implementing hydroclone based fluid filtration systems with extensible isolated filter stages

Cleaning assemblies and particulate tolerant fluid bearings that are particularly well suited for use in centrifugal separation enhanced filtration devices are described. In one aspect of the invention, at least one bearing is arranged to carry a circulating cleaning assembly such that the cleaning assembly can rotate around a filter membrane during filtering operation of the filtration device. The bearing is preferably arranged to maintain the circulating cleaning assembly in a substantially coaxial alignment with the filter membrane and in a substantially stable longitudinal position relative to the filter membrane as the circulating cleaning assembly is rotated around the filter membrane. In another aspect of the invention a variety of particulate tolerant bearings are described.

A hydrocyclone () having a tank () including a fluid inlet (), a filtered fluid outlet (), an effluent outlet (), a process fluid outlet () and an inner peripheral wall () enclosing three vertically aligned chambers () including a vortex chamber () in fluid communication with the fluid inlet through a fluid pathway () adapted for receiving an incoming fluid flow and generating a vortex fluid flow about a filter assembly () which is located within the vortex chamber which encloses a filtrate chamber () which is in fluid communication with the filtered fluid outlet (). An effluent separation chamber () is located bellow the vortex chamber and is in fluid communication with the vortex chamber and the effluent outlet. A process fluid chamber is located bellow the effluent separation chamber and is in fluid communication with the effluent separation chamber and the process fluid outlet.

Multi-chambered hydroclone

A multiple docking system allows multiple dock units to be connected to the bus of a primary unit notebook computer. This is accomplished using multiple bridges between the primary bus of the primary unit and secondary buses in each of the dock units. Importantly, the system allows for hot docking or docking of the multiple dock units to the primary unit while the primary unit is operational. It accomplishes this, however, without the latency impact associated with buffers on the primary bus. Instead, a docking signal is generated to a bridge in first dock unit as the second dock unit is docked. This causes the bridge to complete bus transactions between the primary bus and the first dock unit's secondary bus. The bridge also generates a float request signal to the primary unit and then floats the secondary bus only after receiving a float grant signal back.

A computer has a processor having a bus port operatively connected to a first bus and being operative to selectively access one of a plurality of peripheral devices operatively connected to the bus via at least one of a series of identifiers. The computer also has a peripheral selector for detecting the presence of one or more of the peripheral devices operatively connected to the first and second peripheral ports, for assigning a first of the identifiers to the first peripheral port if one of the peripheral devices is operatively connected to a first peripheral port that is connected to the bus, and for assigning the same first identifier to a second peripheral port that is operatively connected to the bus if the presence of one of the peripheral devices at the first peripheral port is not detected and the presence of one of the peripheral devices at the second peripheral port is detected.

A computer having a case has a connection point for a communications line, where the connection point is accessible from outside the case. A socket receives a standard communications hardware card, the hardware card having a first receptacle to electrically connect to circuits of the computer, and the hardware card having a second receptacle to electrically connect to an exterior electrical circuit, the exterior electrical circuit usually being exterior to the case. A mounting means attaches the socket to the computer, the mounting means positioning the socket to facilitate a connection to the second receptacle of the hardware card, the connection located wholly internal to the case. A multi wire connector electrically connects to the second receptacle of the hardware card, and the multi wire connector is located wholly internal to the case. At least one signal wire has a first end electrically connected to the multi wire connector, and the at least one signal wire has a second end electrically connected to the connection point, the at least one signal wire is located wholly internal to the case, and the at least one signal wire transfers communication signals between the connection point and the hardware card in order to connect the computer to the communications line. The multi wire connector which electrically connects to the second receptacle of the hardware card and is located wholly internally to the case may be located adjacent to an opening in the case, and the opening facilitates inserting the card into the socket. A cover is provided for the opening, the cover closes the case during normal operation of the computer, the cover is removed from the opening for the purpose of removing or inserting the card in the socket.
