Cast solder preforms, rings or donuts suitable for use in a reflow solder process to interconnect through-hole pins in an electrical connector to plated through holes in a printed circuit board are disclosed. A plurality of solder donuts are cast into an array so that the plurality of donuts are initially formed as a single unit. The donuts can be either cast onto pins in a connector or cast onto a separate carrier for subsequent insertion onto the pins in a connector.

Solder preforms in a cast array

A surface accessible wiring system for the distribution of power and signal conductors such as telephone or data conductors is disclosed. A raceway comprises a channel member having a plurality of compartments, a cover which can be securely snapped to the raceway channel and a plurality of connector housings. Each raceway component is extruded from a material such as aluminum. Ribs on the cover and the connector housings are securely snapped into engagement with lips on the channels so that the covers can only be removed with the use of a tool. The channels are shallow so that the raceway assembly can be mounted substantially flush with the exterior surface of a wall or a wall panel, either at the base or top of the wall or at desk level.

Surface accessible wiring system and assembly

A high speed, high density, controlled impedance connector for use between printed circuit boards is disclosed. The connector provides for both power and signal transmission. Closely spaced signal terminals are surrounded by dielectric sleeves positioned in an array, and the plural dielectric sleeves are in turn surrounded by an outer unitary cast conductive housing. The essentially coaxial configuration of the contacts permits minimal variations in the impedance along the length of the signal paths in the connector. The connector is fabricated by first positioning the dielectric sleeves in spaced relationship on prescribed centerlines and subsequently casting or molding the conductive outer housing around the sleeve array.

High density controlled impedance connector

Rotary switch includes a dielectric rotor with die cast conductive circuit paths therein which connect various surface contacts thereon. Rotor comprises first and second dielectric disc members facing internal surfaces which are sandwiched together. Internal surface on first disc member has channels therein which communicate with opposed surface via four circles of holes through the disc member. Holes through second disc member communicate between internal surface thereof and two circular bus channels on opposed surface. Metal die cast into sandwiched disc members forms inner circuit paths and surface contacts. Finished rotor is placed in housing with fixed contacts which make contact with different sets of surface contacts as rotor is rotated incrementally relative to housing. Two fixed contacts remain in contact with respective bus channels regardless of incremental position of rotor.

A device that enhances the feel of a sailboat tiller when such tiller is manually attended, and that maintains any preselected position of such tiller when it is left unattended. Novel clamping members are laterally disposed relative to one another on the transom portion of a sailboat, and releasably secure opposite ends of an elongate, elastomeric cord such that the cord lies tautly in a horizontal plane against such transom when no external force other than such clamping members is imparted thereto. A combination wedge and roller element is fixedly secured to the underside of a conventional tiller, and either the roller or the wedge engages the cord, thereby elongating the cord, when the invention is in use. The roller element engages the cord when the tiller is attended to improve the feel of such tiller, and the wedge element engages the cord when the tiller is unattended, to thereby hold the tiller against substantial movement.

Tiller tender

Modular connector comprises a die cast zinc housing with die cast zinc terminals surrounded by nylon sleeves passing therethrough. Terminals may have right angles therein for connecting circuit boards at right angles such as daughter boards being connected to mother boards. Connectors are modular in form so that individual connectors may be assembled to a circuit board one at a time to form an assembly having varying impedance characteristics throughout its length. Modules providing solely for grounding or power transmission between boards may be provided.

High speed modular connector for printed circuit boards

Electrical fuse comprises an insulating body having a pair of coplanar blades extending from one end thereof. The blades have portions which are supported in the body and a fuse metal link is contained in the insulating body and extends between the supported portions. The conductors which comprise the blades and the supported portions of the blades are produced by die casting and the fuse metal link is insert die cast in these conductors. The insulating body is molded onto the conductors.

Electrical fuse and method of making same

A method of manufacturing an electrical connector of the telephone jack type by insert molding, is disclosed. The conductors for the connector jack are first stamped and formed in continuous strip form from conductive sheet metal with the continuous strip having groups of conductors extending therefrom and spaced along the length of the strip. The strip is fed to an injection molding apparatus and the leading set of conductors of the strip is clamped in the mold of the apparatus in a manner such that the contact portions of the conductors are held between core pins. These core pins extend into the mold cavity so that when the plastic material fills the mold, intermediate portions of the conductors will be embedded in the molding material. When the mold is opened, the core pins are withdrawn from the cavity, the core pins having formed the plug-receiving opening in the telephone jack.

Method of manufacturing electrical connector receptacles

Electrical connector receptacle comprises an insulating housing having a plug-receiving end and a plug-receiving cavity extending into the plug-receiving end. A plurality of side-by-side stamped and formed conductors are insert-molded in the housing and have intermediate portions imbedded in the housing between one of the internal sidewalls of the opening and the adjacent external sidewall of the housing. First end portions of the conductors emerge from the one internal sidewall of the opening proximate to the plug-receiving end and extend diagonally from the internal sidewall into the cavity, these first end portions serving as spring contacts. The second ends of the conductors emerge from the adjacent external sidewall at a location adjacent to the rearward end of the housing. Stamped and formed metallic mounting posts are imbedded into the housing and extend from the adjacent external sidewall. These mounting posts are intended for soldering into metallic pads on a circuit board mechanically to secure the housing to the circuit board.

Electrical connector receptacles

A two piece electrical terminal for use with stranded electrical wires such as those used in aluminum utility cables is disclosed. A device for establishing this electrical termination comprises two mutually rotatable members each having eccentric bores. Misalignment of the bores results in the establishment of intimate metal-to-metal contact between the individual strands and between the outer strands and with the die-cast body of the connector.
