Strain relief assembly for optical fiber connector

A polishing bushing for polishing the end face of an optical fiber supported within a rigid sleeve includes a bushing base (31, 131) having a front surface (36, 136). The rigid sleeve (21, 21a) normally protrudes from beyond the front surface (36, 136) to permit the end face (14, 14a) of the optical fiber (12, 12a) carried therein to be polished. The bushing includes resilient portion (34) for permitting the rigid sleeve (21, 21a) to move longitudinally in passageway (38) to limit the force applied to the end face (14, 14a) of the fiber (12, 12a) by the polishing medium. The front surface (36, 136) of the bushing base (31, 131) is of spherical shape to produce a polished fiber end face (14) which is convex and which protrudes from the rigid sleeve (21) by less than about one micron, or is of flat shape to consistently produce a polished end face (14a) which is recessed within the sleeve ( 21a) by less than about one micron.

An adhesiveless connector for optical fiber cables is formed by a body having a profiled through passage of inwardly directed threads and a narrow fiber passing bore at the opposite end, a fiber clamp received in the body and having its axial bore, and a clamp insert having exterior threads engaging with the threads of the body and a plurality of cantilever arms which engage the body and fiber clamp to securely grip the fiber and buffer of an optical cable passing therethrough. The termination also includes a cylindrical eyelet which can be used to crimp the cable strength members to the connector.

An electrical connector for flat transmission cable comprises a body member having terminal-receiving passageways and conductor-receiving passageways. Electrical terminals are disposed in the terminal-receiving passageways for terminating electrical conductors of a flat transmission cable which are disposed in respective conductor-receiving passageways. Cover members are secured onto the body member and they include strain relief members engaging the flat transmission cable and the respective electrical conductors. According to another aspect of the present invention, the cover members include projections that are disposed on each side of the conductor-receiving sections of the electrical terminals to prevent the electrical conductors from disconnecting from the conductor-receiving sections.

An electrical connector is disclosed of a multi-piece configuration, comprising a connector block having a row of contact-receiving cavities in oppositely-facing surfaces thereof, and a pair of hermaphroditic connector covers for intended assembly over the oppositely-facing block surfaces. The block is provided with parallel rows of receptacle passageways in a frontal face thereof, each accessing a respective cavity. The covers each are provided with a plurality of forwardly-projecting stud projections, serially spaced across a forward end thereof. The projections are inserted into respective receptacle passageways, and cooperate with interior surfaces defining the passageways to define a funnel-shaped profile for guided receipt of terminal pins therethrough.

Multi-piece connector and cover means

An electrical connector assembly is disclosed for terminating a flat transmission cable. The assembly comprises a body having forwardly disposed terminal members seated in oppositely facing surfaces thereof for terminating the cable conductors, and a pair of hermaphroditic connector covers for intended assembly over the oppositely facing body surfaces. Each cover is configured having a transverse tapered ridge extending thereacross at a rearward end thereof, and a transverse recess continuing thereacross in colinear alignment with the ridge. The ridge and recess of one cover are located in compliment to the recess and ridge of the opposite cover, and upon positioning the flat cable between rearward portions of the covers and swinging the covers into a mutually parallel relationship, the connector cover ridges deform a cable portion therebetween to adopt the profile of the intercover space and thereby effectuate secure clamping engagement between the covers and the flat transmission cable.

The disclosure relates to an assembly of electrical contacts with a center conductor and a ground conductor on a coaxial cable, the assembly including further a one-piece housing having two parts hinged to each other for closure together, thereby terminating the conductors to the contacts and providing an enclosure for the terminated conductors. The contacts protrude from the housing for pluggable connection into apertures of a printed circuit board.

Point-to-point miniature coax connector

The combination of a flat multi-wire cable and a connector means for terminating such cable wherein a portion of the cable near the end thereof is stripped of insulation with a short section of unstripped cable between the stripped portion and the end of the cable. Wires designated as signal wires in the stripped portion are severed near the short insulated section thereof after which the short insulated section and the remaining unsevered wires, designated as ground wires, are folded back over the undisturbed insulated cable, thereby leaving the severed signal wires extending outward and over two parallel rows of first slotted contacts secured in a first housing section. By an appropriate tool the extended signal wires are simultaneously inserted in said first slots in parallel manner and without solder. A second housing section is installed over the first housing section to retain the first contacts in said first slots. Said second housing section contains two parallel rows of second slotted contacts positioned over the first two rows of contacts and over which the end of the cable being terminated is folded to bring said ground wires over and subsequently secured in the slots of the second contacts, also by an appropriate tool. The main body of the cable is then folded back over the secured ground wires after which a third housing section, which is a cap, is installed thereover. Each of the second slotted contacts has a tab formed thereon which can be a cantilevered spring contact and which can be either removed or which can make an electrical connection with one of the first contacts positioned therebelow. No soldering is needed nor is any spreading of the wires required although such spreading can be done, if desired.

Connector for mass termination of flat multiple wire cable

This invention relates to a connector for multi-unit coaxial cable of the type wherein each center conductor has a individual shield and each shield has a separate drain wire. More particularly, the connector includes a plurality of contact members each of which consists of an opposing cantilever contact spring section for mating with contact elements of other electrical circuits, a dual in-line cantilever, torsion bar terminating section for receiving either the coaxial cable center conductor or the drain wire, a housing to hold the plurality of contact members and a strain relief clamp member.

This invention relates to a connector for multi-unit coaxial cable of the type wherein each center conductor has an individual shield and each shield has a separate drain wire. More particularly, the connector includes a plurality of contact members each of which consists of an opposing cantilever contact spring section for mating with contact elements of other electrical circuits, a dual in-line cantilever, torsion bar terminating section for receiving either the coaxial cable center conductor or the drain wire, a housing to hold the plurality of contact members and a strain relief clamp member.

This invention relates to a device which removably latches a ribbon coaxial cable connector to a printed circuit board. More particularly the device has a pair of depending legs each having a pair of oppositely projecting latches. One set of latches adapted to removably retain the connector to the printed circuit board and the second set of latches adapted to provide a removable cover for the connector.
