A bar code () has primary information () encoded in one direction (e.g., horizontally) and secondary information () encoded in another direction (e.g., vertically) in single () or multiple tracks () in selected ones of the vertical bars () of a bar code (). Using a non-linear, variable amplitude scanner, all of the bars are scanned in the one direction to obtain all of the primary information and all of those vertical bars having secondary information are scanned in the other direction to obtain all of the secondary information. The one direction which is perpendicular to the vertical bars (), is determined by first rotating the scan path axis () until both start () and end () code bars are read thereby placing the scan path entirely within the total bar code, and, then, further rotating the scan path () to determine the direction of the minimum crossing width (Lsc) of the total bar code (). Secondary information is scanned in planes orthogonal to the one direction after those vertical bars () having such information are first identified and selected. In a preferred embodiment, the decoded secondary information may be used to control selected station process operations for selected products in a continuous manufacturing assembly line.

Method and apparatus for encoding and decoding bar codes with primary and secondary information and method of using such bar codes

Systems and methods are disclosed for displaying data on a head's-up display screen. Multiple forms of data can be selectively displayed on a semi-transparent screen mounted in the user's normal field of view. The screen can either be mounted on the user's head, or mounted on a moveable implement and positioned in front of the user. A user interface is displayed on the screen including a moveable cursor and a menu of computer control icons. An eye-tracking system is mounted proximate the user and is employed to control movement of the cursor. By moving and focusing his or her eyes on a specific icon, the user controls the cursor to move to select the icon. When an icon is selected, a command computer is controlled to acquire and display data on the screen. The data is typically superimposed over the user's normal field of view.

The data communications system may be carried out in one form by a data communications system having a data source, a server/router coupled to the data source and adapted to request data information from the data source, and an information distribution system coupled to the server/router and adapted to receive the data information requested from the data source.

A system for controlling the automatic scrolling of information on a computer display or screen is disclosed. The system includes a gimbaled sensor system for following the position of the user's head and user's eye, and scroll activating interface algorithm to find screen gaze coordinates implemented so the scrolling function is performed based upon the screen gaze coordinates of the user's eye relative to a certain activation area(s) on the display or screen. In addition, the data communication system provides a technique and apparatus for accessing and controlling direct broadcasting systems to facilitate the retrieval of desired information on an expedited basis. The data communications system may be carried out in one form by a data communications system having a data source, an information request system coupled to the data source and adapted to request data information from the data source, and a receiver coupled to the data source and adapted to receive the data information requested the information request system.

Apparatus and method for data communications

Systems and methods are disclosed that optimize the combustion process in various reactors, furnaces, and internal combustion engines. Video cameras are used to evaluate the combustion flame grade. Depending on the desired form, standard or special video devices, or beam scanning devices, are used to image the combustion flame and by-products. The video device generates and outputs image signals during various phases of, and at various locations in, the combustion process. Other forms of sensors monitor and generate data signals defining selected parameters of the combustion process, such as air flow, fuel flow, turbulence, exhaust and inlet valve openings, etc. In a preferred form, a neural networks initially processes the image data and characterizes the combustion flame. A fuzzy logic controller and associated fuzzy logic rule base analyzes the image data from the neural network, along with other sensor information. The fuzzy logic controller determines and generates control signals defining adjustments necessary to optimize the combustion process.

The present invention discloses a general overall system and a general overall method for tracking, monitoring, and learning prisoner or parolee behavior. The system and method involve obtaining prisoner or parolee data and monitoring data for at least one individual prisoner or parolee storing the prisoner or parolee data and monitoring data into a database, learning prisoner or parolee behavior from the prisoner or parolee data and the monitoring data in the database, and updating the prisoner or parolee data and the monitoring data in the database. The present invention executes expert system (i.e. including but not limited to fuzzy logic, reinforcement learning, neural networks, artificial intelligence, etc.) algorithms for determining and analyzing deviated behavior by the prisoner or parolee The present invention system and method is able to assign a parole level to the prisoner or parolee and determine whether the prisoner or parolee is to be moved up or down a parole level depending on whether the prisoner or parolee behavior does not constitute or does constitute prisoner or parolee violations. Furthermore, the present invention tracks, monitors, and learns the behavior of the prisoner or parolee by controlling and regulating the permitted/prohibited locations or sectors, the permitted/prohibited location or sector dwell times, the permitted/prohibited travel routes, the permitted/prohibited travel times that the prisoner or parolee spend at or between various locations.

A system for controlling the automatic scrolling of information on a computer display. The system includes a computer display, a computer gimbaled sensor for tracking the position of the user's head and user's eye, and a scroll activating interface algorithm using a neural network to find screen gaze coordinates implemented by the computer. A scrolling function is performed based upon the screen gaze coordinates of the user's eye relative t activation area(s) on the display. The gimbaled sensor system contains a platform mounted at the top of the display. The gimbaled sensor system tracks the user's head and eye allowing the user to be free from attachments while the gimbaled sensor system is tracking, still allowing the user to freely move his head. A method of controlling automatic scrolling of information on a display includes the steps of finding a screen gaze coordinate on the display of the user determining whether the screen gaze coordinate is within at least one activated control region, and activating scrolling to provide a desired display of information when the gaze direction is within at least one activated control region. In one embodiment, the control regions are defined as upper control region, lower region, right region and left region for controlling the scrolling respectively in downward, upward, leftward and rightward directions. In another embodiment, control regions are defined by concentric rings for maintaining the stationary position of the information or controlling the scrolling of the information towards the center of the display or screen.

A system and method for tracking, monitoring and learning prisoner or parolee behavior involves obtaining prisoner or parolee data and monitoring data for at least one individual prisoner or parolee, storing the prisoner or parolee data and monitored data into a database, learning prisoner or parolee behavior from the prisoner or parolee data and the monitored data in the database, and updating the prisoner or parolee data and the monitored data in the database. Expert system (i.e. including but not limited to fuzzy logic, reinforcement learning, neural networks, artificial intelligence, etc.) algorithms are executed for determining and analyzing deviated behavior by the prisoner or parolee. A parole level is assigned to the prisoner or parolee and it is determined whether the prisoner or parolee is to be moved up or down a parole level depending on whether the prisoner or parolee behavior does not constitute or does constitute prisoner or parolee violations. Furthermore, the system tracks, monitors, and learns the behavior of the prisoner or parolee by controlling and regulating the permitted/prohibited locations or sectors, the permitted/prohibited location or sector dwell times, the permitted/prohibited travel routes, the permitted/prohibited travel times that the prisoner or parolee spends at or between various locations.
