A cut-off die set of the double cut type in which sections of tubing are successively severed from a length of tubing utilizing a notching cut followed by a severing cut. A notching blade is mounted to a notching blade holder slidably disposed on an adjustable mounting block. The notching blade holder includes a cam follower mounted thereon. The die set further includes a clamping apparatus having reciprocal clamping jaws operative to move between a clamped position and a released position whereby operation of the clamping jaws and the notching blade are controlled through a single cam mounted to an upper platen of the die set.

Double cut die set

An apparatus for mounting a shearing blade specifically for use in a cut-off die set of the type used to cut tubing continuously emanating from a mill. The present invention is directed toward the shearing blade assembly used in conjunction with the notching blade of the cut-off die set. The subject device includes a mounting block fixed to the upper platen of the die set, a shearing blade mounted in a shearing blade cartridge, and a locking stud rotatably mounted on the mounting block which threadably engages and secures the shearing blade cartridge to the mounting block.

Apparatus for mounting a shearing blade

An apparatus and method for severing a workpiece wherein the workpiece is clamped at two axially spaced apart locations, and heated to reduce the tensile strength of the material, after which the axial spacing between the clamps is increased to pull the workpiece apart in the heated area. This apparatus and method may also be used in a flying environment; i.e., the severing apparatus travels with the workpiece to sever sections of a workpiece continuously emanating from a fabrication mill.
