A method of delivering a medical fluid to a patient includes enabling the attachment of an infusion pump housing to an external support, enabling the viewing of information right-side-up on a display screen of the infusion pump housing, enabling the rotation of the display screen approximately 90 degrees about an axis extending perpendicularly from the display screen, automatically reorienting the information on the display screen so that the information remains right-side-up after rotation, enabling the viewing of the information right-side-up on the display screen after rotation, and enabling the delivery of a flowable material to the patient through an infusion line attached to the infusion pump housing before and after rotation.

Method of operating an infusion pump with a multiple orientation display

An infusion pump includes a housing having a compartment structured to receive a syringe and a drive mechanism supported by the housing. The drive mechanism is structured and arranged to contact a syringe plunger of the syringe and move the syringe plunger within a syringe barrel of the syringe. The infusion pump further includes a syringe plunger position sensor and a syringe barrel size sensor. The sensors each include a magnet positioned on the drive mechanism and a magnetic sensor array supported by the housing.

An infusion pump including a drive mechanism; an assembly operable with the drive mechanism, the assembly configured to deliver a flowable material to a patient; a mountable housing holding the drive mechanism and configured at its front side to receive the assembly and at its backside to mount in either a first orientation or a second orientation to an external support, wherein the housing supports the drive mechanism and the assembly in each of the orientations; a controller operably connected to the housing; and a display operably connected to the controller and supported by the front side of the housing, the display configured to be rotatably responsive so that information displayed by the display is oriented right-side-up regardless of whether the assembly is in the first orientation or the second orientation.

An infusion pump includes a housing; a user interface carried by the housing; a pump actuator positioned by the housing so as to be able to actuate a medical fluid pump member; and wherein the user interface and the pump actuator are powered interchangeably by a first, rechargeable battery unit and a second battery unit, both the first and second battery units configured to power the user interface and the pump actuator at a place for which outside power is unavailable, and such that the user interface and the pump actuator can be powered by the second battery unit while the first battery unit is being recharged.

An infusion pump which includes a fingerprint reader to verify that a patient or a user is authorized to activate a patient-controlled analgesic button. The fingerprint reader can be integrated into the patient-controlled analgesic button. The infusion pump delivers a dose of medication to the patient if the fingerprint of the patient or user matches a pre-loaded fingerprint.

A drive mechanism for an infusion pump linearly moves a syringe plunger within a syringe barrel supported by the pump and includes: (i) a motor; (ii) a lead screw rotatably connected to the motor; (iii) a slide assembly having a threaded member supported thereon, the threaded member being associated with the lead screw; (iv) an arm having one end connected to the slide assembly and one end adapted to be engaged with the syringe plunger, and (v) the threaded member being rotatably biased in engagement with the lead screw, wherein upon rotation of the lead screw by the motor, the slide assembly linearly moves the arm wherein the arm is adapted to move the syringe plunger within the syringe barrel.

An infusion pump () is configured to be powered by either a disposable battery source or a rechargeable battery source. The infusion pump () has a housing () having a recess (). A motor is positioned within the housing () and is operably connected to an electrical contact () disposed in the recess (). The motor powers the pump (). The recess () receives one of a rechargeable battery unit () having an electrical contact () that contacts the recess electrical contact (), and a disposable battery unit () having an electrical contact () that contacts the recess electrical contact ().

A medical device () is disclosed. The device () is adaptable for configuration in various positions. In the preferred embodiment, the device () comprises an infusion pump () for dispensing a medical fluid to a patient. A controller () is operably connected to a display () and the pump (). The display () is operably responsive to the position of the pump () wherein information on the display () can be easily viewed.
