Disclosed is a tubular pipe string element having a pin connector and a box connector complementary to the pin connector. The pin and box connectors are rotationally engageable with the respective box and pin connectors of another pipe string element and have complementary anti-rotation devices that cooperate to prevent unintentional relative rotation between the connectors. The anti-rotation devices may include saw-tooth profiled, radially extending teeth and a steep trailing tooth flank angle for the pin member, and at least one detent member formed on the pipe string element for the box connector. When securing the pin and box connectors, the leading flanks of the teeth engage with the detent members while allowing the connectors to rotate into a fully connected position. The steep trailing tooth flank is trapped by the detent member when in the fully connected position to prevent unintentional release of the connection.

Anti-rotation device for pipe string

An improved drilling riser assembly including a male drilling riser assembly section and a female drilling riser assembly section that form a connection joint when mated. The drilling riser assembly sections having an internal stab type main drilling riser connector. The drilling riser assembly sections each have main drilling riser flanges that have helically threaded rings on an outer edge of the flange. A box and pin connector each have an inner helically threaded ring that mates with the outer helical flange ring of a drilling riser assembly section. The box and pin connectors extend towards each other and make up an enclosed compression joined mating section around the stab type connectors of the drilling riser assembly.

Merlin drilling riser assembly

A pipe connector comprises a first pipe section having a first end and having teeth formed on its outer surface proximate to, but spaced axially apart from, the first end. A second pipe section has a second end which, in use, is to be connected to the first end of the first pipe section. A sleeve is slidably mounted on the outer surface of the second pipe section for movement between a first extended position, in which a front end of the sleeve projects beyond the second end of the second pipe section so as, in use, to overlap the first end of the first pipe section when abutted against the second end of the second pipe section, and a second retracted position in which said front end is withdrawn so as at least to be aligned with the second end of the second pipe section, the sleeve having teeth formed on its outer surface at least in the region of the front end. A stop is provided on the second pipe section and the sleeve to prevent axial movement of the sleeve beyond the extended position. A lock ring is also provided having teeth formed on its inner cylindrical surface which are sized to engage both the teeth of the first pipe section and the teeth of the sleeve when the sleeve is overlapping the first end of the first pipe section so as to lock said first pipe section and the sleeve together against relative axial movement.

Telescoping pipe connector

A releasable connector assembly comprising a socket bodyand a plug body. The socket bodyhas a set of channelsformed therein and the plug bodyhaving a corresponding set of radial tabsformed thereon, the channelsforming a keyway for the tabssuch that load bearing projectionson the bodies are releasably engageable in the manner of a bayonet coupling. The assembly is characterised in that a set of locking pins are provided on the socket member that are extendable into the channelsso as, in use, to trap the tabsin undercutsof the channels, thereby preventing unintentional release of the plugfrom the socket, and retractable from the channelsso as to enable release of the plugfrom the socket

Connector assemblies for connecting members under tension

A pipe connector includes a tubular pin member having a generally frusto-conical outer peripheral surface and a tubular box member having a generally frusto-conical inner peripheral surface corresponding to the frusto-conical outer peripheral surface of the pin member and overlies the frusto-conical surface of the pin member when the members are fully engaged together. The members include with inter-engageable annular projections and grooves on the said peripheral surfaces for axially locking the members together when they are fully engaged together, the projections and grooves being spaced apart along the surfaces. Means are provided for supplying hydraulic fluid under pressure between the overlying parts of the surfaces of the members when fully engaged together to expand the box member and/or contract the pin member to bring the projections out of engagement with the corresponding grooves and permit the members to be disengaged. The members include means for radially restraining the free end of at least one of the members of the connector and the extent of the radial overlap at full engagement of at least the projections and grooves in the region of the free end of the one member and the corresponding inner end of the other member is reduced relative to that in the region of the centre of the connector.
