A dual motor system includes a first motor providing a lower speed range and a second motor providing a higher speed range, wherein the motors are coaxially arranged and aligned on and drive a common shaft, and a motor control system controlling the speed of the first motor and engaging the second motor as needed. The first motor is a variable speed motor providing a lower two-thirds of a full speed range, and the second motor is an induction motor providing the upper one-third in the form of one or more discrete fixed speeds. The system may include a transformer including a first winding tap which provides a first higher speed, and a second winding tap which provides a second higher speed. The system may also include a flow control system for automatically controlling the speed of the motors for particular applications, such as flow control in a pool.

A motor includes a shaft presenting a shaft lead end, a switch assembly including a switch arm shiftable between a first position and a second position, and shield structure. The shaft lead end and the switch assembly are disposed axially outward of an endhsield. The shield structure is disposed axially outward of the switch arm to at least substantially restrict direct tool access to the switch arm from an axially outward position relative to the switch arm. The shield structure at least in part defines first and second tool access channels each extending radially inwardly to the shaft lead end, such that the shield structure enables direct tool access to the shaft lead end via the tool access channels but prevents or at least substantially restricts direct tool access to the switch arm via the tool access channels.

A motor includes a shaft presenting a shaft lead end, a switch assembly including a switch arm shiftable between a first position and a second position, and shield structure. The shaft lead end and the switch assembly are disposed axially outward of an endshield. The shield structure is disposed axially outward of the switch arm to at least substantially restrict direct tool access to the switch arm from an axially outward position relative to the switch arm. The shield structure at least in part defines first and second tool access channels each extending radially inwardly to the shaft lead end, such that the shield structure enables direct tool access to the shaft lead end via the tool access channels but prevents or at least substantially restricts direct tool access to the switch arm via the tool access channels.

A pump motor assembly operable to provide driving power to a fluid pump includes a rotor, a stator, a case housing the rotor and the stator, and a control assembly mounted to the case and operable to control motor operation. The control assembly includes an information display and a cover overlying the display, with a window section in general alignment with the display. The control assembly also includes a filler plate underlying the window section to prevent any air gap along an underside thereof, allowing the display to be visible while reducing the risk of condensation buildup. The control assembly further includes a low voltage housing with the display disposed in a first compartment defined thereby, and a high voltage housing with a high voltage component disposed in a second compartment defined thereby. The low voltage housing includes a thermal and fluid barrier that substantially fluidly separates the first and second compartments to reduce the risk of liquid electrical conduction therebetween and to reduce heat transfer into the low voltage housing.

A PSC/PSC motor for 2-pole operation and 4-pole operation. The motor uses an independent 2-pole main winding and an independent 4-pole main winding. An auxiliary winding includes an independent 2-pole auxiliary winding, an independent 4-pole auxiliary winding, and a shared auxiliary winding used in both the 2-pole operation and the 4-pole operation.

A fluid deflecting baffle is provided for use on an electric motor to be used in an environment where liquid may otherwise pass through a vent opening in an endshield of the motor. The baffle is secureable to the endshield and extends in a partial covering relationship with the vent opening. The baffle includes a vent passage therethrough and has at least one liquid flow obstructing louver that extends across the vent opening to deflect liquid away from the vent passage while allowing venting air to flow through the vent passage. The louver includes a generally flat liquid deflection surface that is disposed at an oblique angle relative to the axis of the motor and at least partially faces a venting direction of incoming air and fluid.
