A system and method for providing automatic from-waypoint updating includes determining when a flight plan has been received that includes rendering a lateral map image that includes an aircraft icon and a flight leg to be captured. A variable position user input device supplies a signal representative of its position. A processor processes the signal from the variable position user input device and commands a display device to render a trajectory line graphic that (a) extends from the aircraft icon in a direction that corresponds to the position of the variable user input device and (b) intersects the at least one flight leg to be captured. The flight plan is automatically updated to designate the waypoint at the start of the at least one flight leg as a from-waypoint.

Automatic from-waypoint updating system and method

A system method for providing aircraft lateral navigation system capability feedback to a pilot includes determining, in a processor, when a flight plan has been received that includes a flight leg that needs to be captured by the aircraft. A determination is made, in the processor, when an armed signal has been received, where the armed signal indicating that an aircraft autopilot navigation mode (NAV) has been armed. The processor is used to command a display device to render the flight leg using a first display paradigm when the armed signal has not been received, and to render the flight leg using a second display paradigm when the armed signal has been received.

A display system is provided for a vehicle. The display system includes a data source configured to provide terrain data with detached objects that are detached from ground terrain and attached objects that are attached to ground terrain; a processing unit coupled to the data source configured to receive the terrain data and to distinguish the detached objects from the attached objects to generate display commands for a three-dimensional view that comprises graphical elements representing both the detached objects and the attached objects; and a display device coupled to the processing unit and configured to receive the display commands and operable to render the common three-dimensional view to thereby allow viewing of the detached objects and the attached objects.

Synthetic vision systems and methods for displaying detached objects

A display system is provided for a vehicle. The system includes a first data source configured to provide low resolution terrain data; a second data source configured to provide high resolution terrain data; a processing unit coupled to the first data source and the second data source, the processing unit configured to receive the low resolution terrain data and high resolution terrain data, to integrate the low resolution terrain data and the high resolution terrain data into a common three-dimensional view that includes graphical elements representing both the low and the high resolution terrain data, and to supply display commands associated with the low and the high resolution terrain data; and a display device coupled to the processing unit and configured to receive the display commands and operable to render the common three-dimensional view to thereby allow simultaneous viewing of the low and the high resolution terrain data.

System and method for displaying vertical reference on a rotorcraft system

Methods and apparatus are provided for an azimuthal equidistant projection (AEP) aircraft navigational display. The apparatus comprises a generator providing the aircraft's current latitude and longitude (&#x3c6;,&#x3bb;), a user input for providing the desired map radius R, a display for presenting the navigational information, a map data source providing topographical information associated with geo-spatial coordinates, and a controller and memory coupled to the generator, data source, input and display for providing data transformations. Map data containing topographical information associated with each geo-spatial coordinate is obtained from the map data source for an area of approximately radius R from (&#x3c6;,&#x3bb;). Using the controller and memory, the geo-spatial coordinates are converted to AEP spatial coordinates so that the topographical information is now associated with such AEP spatial coordinates. The transformed map data is sent to the display to provide AEP navigational information on the display around (&#x3c6;,&#x3bb;).

Azimuthal equidistant projection navigation display and method

The combustion control system described herein is the top assembly of a combustion chamber. It was developed as part of an efficient wood burning fire place. The assembly presumes that there is some sort of baffle above the fire directing the flames to the front and a non-airtight glass door. The object is to burn cleanly, efficiently, with a minimum of creosote on the glass and with a relatively low cost non-airtight construction. A single damper blade regulates the flue opening, the combustion air supply and dilution air for the chimney. The blade also acts as a deflector to provide a long combustion path and heat extraction. A bimetal element automatically adjusts the damper as the combustion process changes.

Combustion control system

A gas and solid fuel burning chamber is provided with a control system for the safe and efficient operation of a gas burner. The simple control system uses multiple thermocouples in series to permit the safe operation of the gas burner in a vented device without the need for a draft hood. A combination of gas and solid fuel is demonstrated where gas can be used to start the solid or as an independent source of heat. The control system comprises generally of thermocouples for measuring the flame temperature, the combusted gas temperature and the overall chamber internal temperature and producing signals to regulate the flow of fuel to the gas burner in response thereto.

Atmospheric gas burner and control system

An improved wall shield and chimney support (WSCS) unit adapted to fit flush within the wall of a dwelling is disclosed. The WSCS unit includes ducts for ducting cooling air entirely around the inner wall of the unit and especially around the front lateral corners and top. The airflows are separated into outer and inner flows with the inner flow insulating the outer flow from combustion heat. The outer flow is then directed to the front of the unit top whereby a hot combustion unit can be brought into close juxtaposition with the WSCS unit without substantial danger of fire. Plural ducts are provided for cooling the rear wall of the unit, having inlets at the bottom rear of the fireplace unit, extending upwardly along the rear wall of the unit, and forwardly around the chimney, further cooling this area. The cooling of the chimney area is also increased by focusing the cooling air with baffles as it passes by the chimney. The baffles and vertical wall of a transverse duct at the top front of the unit allow the unit to support a conventional chimney without further support structure.

Wall shield and chimney support

An improved fireplace unit adapted to fit flush within the wall of a dwelling is disclosed. The fireplace unit comprises duct means for ducting cooling air entirely around the inner wall of the unit and especially around the front lateral edges and top, whereby flammable building materials can be brought into close juxtaposition with the unit without substantial danger of fire. Plural ducts are provided for cooling the rear wall of the unit, having inlets at the bottom rear of the fireplace unit, extending upwardly along the rear wall of the unit, and forwardly around the chimney, further cooling this area. The top wall of the unit comprises an integral support member and thermal break which allows the unit to support a conventional chimney without further support structure and provides a substantial thermal break between the chimney and the front wall of the unit. In a preferred embodiment, the fireplace unit according to the invention accepts an inner fireplace member which can be readily removed for cleaning and maintenance as needed.

A wood burning device comprising a metal box with a flue, an automatic flue damper, a combustion chamber formed by layers of insulating refractory material, a transparent ceramic glass front, an insulated refractory baffle forming the top portion of the combustion chamber, a means for introducing air into the combustion chamber, and a smoke deflector upstream from the flue. The stove further includes a support for tilting the box backwards, and a latching mechanism for a slideable door on the ceramic glass front.

Woodkiln combustion device

A fireplace grate comprising a support for holding burning logs and the accompanying hot embers and ashes and including heat transfer structure for transferring heat generated by the logs and embers to the area immediately therebelow. The grate further includes air passageways located in the area below the support. The passageways having air outlets at the front of the grate for directing air into the room in which the fireplace is located and air inlets disposed at a locaton remote from the air outlets for receiving air for passage through the passageways.
