An inflatable port including a housing, a chamber in the housing, a septum over the chamber, a hollow stem extending from the housing, and a bladder around at least a portion of the housing. The chamber has a major opening and a minor opening. The septum is positioned over the major opening of the chamber and is fixed to the housing. The stem fluidly connects to the chamber by way of the minor opening of the chamber. The bladder is configured to increase a size of the inflatable port upon inflation of the bladder and decrease the size of the inflatable port upon deflation of the bladder. Also disclosed herein is a catheter assembly including the inflatable port, as well as a method related to the inflatable port and the catheter assembly.

A method of making an access port, includes providing a port body defining a fluid cavity, positioning a septum over the fluid cavity, and securing the septum to the port body. The septum includes a lower portion having a first diameter, an upper portion joined to the lower portion at a juncture, the upper portion having a second diameter less than the first diameter at the juncture, and a plurality of palpation features joined to the upper portion. Each of the palpation features includes a first end adjacent a central axis of the septum, and a second end extending radially outward, overlapping the juncture.

An access port including a housing, a first septum, a second septum, and a radiographic indicator. The first septum and the second septum can respectively cover a first reservoir and a second reservoir of the access port. The first septum can include a first sub-pattern of protrusions and the second septum can include a second sub-pattern of protrusions. The radiographic indicator can include a first portion including information pertaining to the first sub-pattern, and a second portion including information pertaining to the second sub-pattern.

Radiopaque and septum-based indicators for a multi-lumen implantable port

A method for power injection of fluids through an access port includes implanting the access port in a patient, palpating the access port, imaging the access port, and introducing contrast media into the patient through the access port at a rate in a range from about two milliliters per second to about five milliliters per second. The access port may include a housing, a first septum, a second septum, and a radiographic indicator. The first septum and the second septum may respectively cover a first reservoir and a second reservoir of the access port. The first septum may include a first sub-pattern of protrusions and the second septum may include a second sub-pattern of protrusions. The radiographic indicator may include a first portion including information pertaining to the first sub-pattern, and a second portion including information pertaining to the second sub-pattern. The imaging identifies the radiographic indicator.

An implantable multi-lumen access port including indicators for ascertaining characteristics of the port is disclosed. In one embodiment, the access port comprises a housing that defines a first reservoir and a second reservoir. A first septum and second septum are respectively coupled with the housing to provide selective access to the first and second reservoirs. Each septum includes a plurality of protrusions defined about a periphery thereof that are palpable after implantation of the port in a patient to determine a relative position of the first septum with respect to the second septum. A radiographically observable indicator is also included on a base of the housing, so as to provide information relating to a characteristic of the dual-lumen port, such as suitability for power injection of fluids. The indicator in one embodiment includes a substantially rigid radiopaque component.

An access port for providing subcutaneous access to a patient is disclosed. The access port includes a septum including palpable identification indicia thereon. In particular, the access port in one embodiment includes a body that defines a fluid cavity and a needle-penetrable septum covering the fluid cavity for providing access thereto. The septum defines an outer periphery. One or more palpation features are included on the septum. The palpation features each include a portion that extends in a radial direction beyond the outer periphery of the septum. The palpation features are therefore disposed relatively farther away from each other, simplifying palpation and identification thereof after the port has been subcutaneously implanted into a patient. The palpation features can be indicative of an attribute of the port, such as its ability to withstand fluid pressures and flow rates associated with power injection, for instance.

A power-injectable access port suitable for providing subcutaneous access to a patient and suitable for power injection. The access port includes a septum, a housing, and a reservoir defined by the septum and the housing. The septum may include a material that seals passages formed by puncturing the septum with a hollow slender element or another suitable access mechanism, and a radiopaque material forming a selected pattern when an x-ray is taken through the septum for identifying the power-injectable access port as being suitable for power injection. The housing and the septum may be structured for accommodating a pressure developed within the reservoir of at least 35 psi. The power-injectable access port may be designed to accommodate a flow rate of at least 1 milliliter per second of a fluid.

Vascular access port stem

A power-injectable access port suitable for injecting contrast media therethrough at a rate of at least 1 milliliter per second. The access port includes a housing, a septum, a reservoir, and an outlet stem in fluid communication with the reservoir. The power-injectable access port is structured for accommodating a pressure developed within the reservoir of at least 35 psi. The septum may include a radiopaque material forming a selected pattern when an x-ray is taken through the septum. The pattern may identify the access port as capable of accommodating injection of contrast media at a rate of at least 1 milliliter per second and/or as capable of accommodating a pressure developed within the reservoir of at least 35 psi. The pattern may identify the location of the septum following implantation of the power-injectable access port.

A multi-lumen catheter including a generally cylindrical body enclosing a first and second lumen separated by a generally planar septum. A first and second tip section extend from a distal end of the body. The first and second tip section may each include a generally planar surface. The second tip section may include a first segment extending from the distal end of the body to a transition segment and a second segment extending from the transition segment to a distal end of the second tip section.

An access port for subcutaneous implantation is disclosed. Such an access port may comprise a body for capturing a septum for repeatedly inserting a needle therethrough into a cavity defined within the body. Further, the access port may include at least one feature structured and configured for identification of the access port subsequent to subcutaneous implantation. Methods of identifying a subcutaneously implanted access port are also disclosed. For example, a subcutaneously implanted access port may be provided and at least one feature of the subcutaneously implanted access port may be perceived. Further, the subcutaneously implanted access port may be identified in response to perceiving the at least one feature. In one embodiment, an identification feature is engraved or otherwise defined by the access port, so as to be visible after implantation via x-ray imaging technology.
