An electromotive machine () comprises a rotor () and a stator (). The stator () comprises a first group of primary windings (), which are concentrated windings, arranged on a first side of the rotor () and a second group of primary windings () that are concentrated windings arranged on a second, opposite, side of the rotor (). The primary windings of each group comprise a plurality of coils that, in use, are supplied with current and produce a magnetic field. The windings of the second group () are displaced, relative to the windings of the first group () in order to cancel out an n-pole component of the magnetic field.

Electromotive machines

Interventional MRI imaging leads to the development of open magnets such as for example C-magnet,in which it is correspondingly more difficult to generate a large field in order to obtain a good signal-to-noise ratio. To overcome this, a pre-polarizing unit,is provided which utilizes a HTSC magnet, for example of YBCO, which is brought adjacent to the patient to assist in generating the main field, and then rapidly withdrawn to position,in order to enable the r.f. signals to be detected in the presence of the field of the C-magnet

Magnetic resonance pre-polarization apparatus

In a magnet system, e.g. for use in a magnetic resonance apparatus, wherein a magnetic field is produced in a gap between pole pieces (5) joined by a yoke (7) by an electric drive coil arrangement carried on the yoke, stabilisation against variations in the field in the gap is provided by a stabilising arrangement (43) wherein over a section of its length the yoke is divided into a plurality of discrete parallel finger-like portions (45) each of which is surrounded by a separate ring (47) of superconducting non-magnetic material.

Magnet systems

A disc machine has a stator from which teeth and a central boss project axially in the same direction with the central boss projecting beyond the teeth. An AC winding is wound through the slots between the teeth while a DC winding surrounds the central boss. A bar-like rotor has a central aperture and is mounted for rotation so that the boss passes through the central aperture with an axial gap between the rotor and the teeth.
