Described herein is an acoustic building panel having a first major exposed surface opposite a second major exposed surface and a side exposed surface extending there between, the acoustic ceiling panel comprising: a body comprising a first major surface opposite a second major surface and a side surface extending between the first and second major surfaces, the body being air-permeable; and an attenuation coating applied to the first major surface of the body; wherein a first portion of the second major exposed surface of the acoustic building panel is formed by the first major surface of the body and a second portion of the second major exposed surface of the acoustic building panel is formed by the attenuation coating.

Acoustic building panels

Described herein is a stain and sag resistant acoustic building panel comprising a porous body formed from building material and latex binder, wherein the building material may include fibers and filler and at one of the building materials has been pre-treated with a charge-modifying component, thereby enhancing the sag-resistance of the building panel.

Described herein is an stain and sag resistant acoustic building panel comprising a porous body formed from building material and latex binder, wherein the building material may include fibers and filler and at one of the building materials has been pre-treated with a charge-modifying component, thereby enhancing the sag-resistance of the building panel.

An interior building system which includes a curved, acoustical, self-supporting composite panel which differentiates and accents the interior building space, and, at the same time, provides substantial sound absorbing capabilities. The composite panel is composed of two or more layers of non self-supporting soft fiber material and a discontinuous layer of adhesive interposed between each of the soft fiber layers. The system further includes mounting hardware for attaching the panel to the building structure. The mounting hardware has a perforated plate which is embedded in the panel which minimizes the visibility of the hardware, and, at the same time, provides enhanced load bearing capabilities.

Acoustical canopy system

A lightweight acoustical panel having a substantially monolithic appearance and high sound absorption capabilities is manufactured at a lower cost than acoustical panels having comparable properties. The panel is formed, punched with pins and coated with a coarse particle coating.

Acoustical panel and method of making such panel

A coating composition and process of applying the coating to a substrate are provided herein. The coating composition includes filler particles, binder and a liquid carrier, such as water. The filler particles have an average particle size in the range from about 100 to about 600 microns and preferably in the range from about 200 to about 450 microns. The coating composition comprises from about 15% to about 50% by weight liquid carrier and from about 35% to about 90% by dry solids weight filler particles. The coating composition preserves the acoustic performance characteristics of the substrate to which it is applied, while imparting a textured appearance to the substrate, making the substrate virtually indistinguishable from surrounding panels.

Acoustical panel coating and process of applying same

A fine texture fiberboard panel having a low resistivity value and a high board hardness value. The panel includes mineral fibers, perlite, cellulosic fibers, and binder. The mineral fibers comprise from about 50% to about 85%, the perlite includes from 0% to about 18%, the cellulosic fiber comprises from about 2% to about 7% and the binder includes from about 6% to about 15% of the panel on a dry solids weight basis. The concentration of mineral fibers includes from about 30% to about 65% nodulated mineral fiber. The perlite has a density in the range from about 7 to about 20 pcf.

Fiberboard panel having improved acoustics and durability

An acoustical panel has a fiberboard which includes a fibrous filler and a base binder, and a nodulated overlay disposed on the fiberboard, wherein the overlay includes nodulated wool and an overlay binder and has a substantially smooth surface. In one embodiment of the present invention, the fibrous filler is mineral wool and the base binder is granular starch. In an another embodiment of the present invention, the nodulated wool is nodulated mineral wool and the overlay binder is cooked pearl cornstarch. A method of making the durable acoustical panel in accordance with the present invention is disclosed. Initially, an aqueous slurry comprising a fibrous filler, a base binder, and water is formed. The aqueous slurry is deposited onto a moving foraminous support wire to form an aqueous felt, thereby creating a continuous process. Thereafter, the aqueous felt is de-watered to form a wet felt. The wet felt is coated with an aqueous overlay comprising nodulated wool, overlay binder, and water and has a substantially smooth surface. Finally, the wet felt and aqueous overlay are dried to form the ceiling panel.

Durable acoustical panel and method of making the same

An acoustical panel formed from a fibrous, open-celled material comprised of up to about 50% by weight fibers, between about 3% and about 10% by weight binder, between about 20% and about 75% by weight filler and about 0.01% to about 2.0% by weight surfactant. Additionally, voids are formed within the panel having an average distribution size diameter of about 50 &mgr;m to about 250 &mgr;m. The acoustic panel achieves very high sound absorption properties without the need for additional surface perforations, while maintaining a very high surface hardness.

Foamed composite panel with improved acoustics and durability

A novel composite board of mineral wool, perlite, and cellulosic newsprint fibers for use as an acoustical tile is disclosed. The board displays a high porosity, a fine pore structure, a low density gradient through its thickness and an acceptable strength. The board is manufactured by a process that includes a flotation step prior to the final formation step.

A novel composite board of mineral wool, perlite, and cellulosic newsprint fibers for use primarily as a ceiling tile is disclosed. The board displays virtually no sag (less than 200 mils) when exposed to high temperature and high humidity while displaying quite acceptable strength. The board is manufactured by selective deposition of a composition of latex and extender particles on the cellulosic newsprint fibers.
