A toilet flushing device includes a body which has an inlet and an outlet. There is a valve seat in the body in the flow path between the inlet and the outlet and there is a valve member movable within the body toward and away from the valve seat to control water flow through the flushing device. A handle assembly is mounted on the body for causing movement of the valve member. The handle assembly includes a socket attached to the body and a handle mounted in the socket for pivotal movement relative thereto. A plunger is positioned in part within the socket and is in contact with the handle. Pivotal movement of the handle causes axial movement of the plunger, with a portion of the plunger being positioned for contact with the valve member. There is a spring biasing the plunger toward the handle and there is a bushing attached to the socket and having a central bore within which the plunger moves. A seal slide is mounted on the plunger and is in sliding engagement with the bushing as it moves relative thereto. There is a seal element between the interior of the seal slide and an exterior portion of the bushing.

A control stop for use in a plumbing supply line includes a body having an inlet and an outlet. There is a valve seat in the body and a valve member movable toward and away from the valve seat to control flow from the inlet to the outlet. There is an opening in the body providing exterior access to the valve member for adjustment thereof. A vandalproof cap assembly closes the opening. The cap assembly includes a sleeve threadedly attached to the body about the access opening. A cap is mounted on the sleeve for free rotation relative thereto. The sleeve and cap have tool receiving openings therein which, when in alignment, and with a tool inserted therein, will provide for concurrent movement of the sleeve and cap for removal thereof from the body access opening.

A diaphragm for flush valves has a plurality of concentric reinforcing rings spaced closer together at the smaller diameters of the diaphragm than at the larger diameters. The reinforcing rings have a geometrically progressive spacing from the inside to the outside of the diaphragm so as to provide maximum hoop stress reduction with a minimum amount of material.

A flush valve for use with toilet devices such as urinals and water closets includes a body having an inlet and an outlet. There is a valve seat between the inlet and outlet and a barrel connects the valve seat with the outlet. A diaphragm assembly is positioned within the flush valve and movable toward and away from a closing position on the valve seat to control the flow of water to the outlet. The diaphragm assembly includes a diaphragm peripherally clamped within the flush valve housing and a refill ring extending downstream from the diaphragm. The refill ring has a plurality of circumferentially disposed passages connecting the inlet and outlet when the diaphragm assembly is away from the valve seat. The size of the passages in the refill ring determines the volume of water flow during operation of the flush valve.

A diaphragm-type of flush valve for use with toilet devices such as urinals and water closets has a body with an inlet and an outlet and a valve seat therebetween. There is a valve member movable to a closing position on the valve seat to stop flow between the inlet and the outlet. The valve member includes a diaphragm peripherally attached to the body, a refill ring attached to the diaphragm for controlling water flow to the outlet and a retaining disc which is used to attach the refill ring to the diaphragm. There is a pressure chamber above the diaphragm for holding the valve member on the valve seat. A filter and bypass orifice connect the inlet and the pressure chamber, with the bypass orifice being formed in the retaining disc and the filter being formed in part by a portion of the diaphragm.

A bypass orifice and filter for use in the diaphragm of a toilet room flush valve includes an orifice member adapted to be mounted in the flush valve diaphragm, and a filter element attached to the upstream side of the orifice member. The orifice member has a metering restriction to limit the flow of water therethrough and the filter element has a plurality of openings therein in communication with the orifice member metering restriction. The smallest dimension of the openings in the filter element are less than the smallest dimension of the metering restriction so that any particle in the water passing through the filter element will pass through the metering orifice. In some embodiments the orifice member and filter element are an integral unit.

A diverter mechanism for a bedpan rinsing apparatus includes a diverter valve body and a nozzle pivot mounted within the valve body. A bedpan rinsing arm assembly is positioned within a passage in the nozzle pivot. The improvement is a seal between the nozzle pivot and arm assembly in which the device that locks the arm assembly to the nozzle pivot moves the arm assembly toward the seal as the locking device moves to a locking position.

A flush valve includes a body having a water inlet and a water outlet. There is an inner cover mounted on the body and with portions of the flush valve defines a chamber which is in communication with the flush valve inlet. A sensor for detecting the presence of an object adjacent the flush valve is mounted on the inner cover, as is an electrical circuit for causing operation of the flush valve. There is an outer cover which encloses the inner cover, sensor, and electrical circuit. The outer cover is formed of a plastic which will transmit radiation from the sensor whereby the sensor can detect the presence of an object adjacent the flush valve. The inner and outer cover have interfitting lugs which restrict relative rotation therebetween and provide a means for attaching the covers to the flush valve body through the use of a ring which applies a load only to the inner cover.

A sensor-operated battery powered flush valve for a toilet device includes a valve body having a water inlet and a water outlet. A diaphragm valve movable within the valve body controls the flow of water between the inlet and the outlet. A latching solenoid is mounted within the valve body and controls movement of the diaphragm between open and closed positions. A battery is mounted to provide the power for the latching solenoid. An infrared sensor connects the battery to the latching solenoid to cause the solenoid to move the diaphragm to a valve open position. A magnetically-operated switch is positioned within the valve body and a magnet carried by the diaphragm will cause the switch to close when the diaphragm moves to a valve open position. Closure of the magnetic switch causes the solenoid to move to a position in which the diaphragm will close flow between the inlet and the outlet of the flush valve.

Sensor-operated battery-powered flush valve

A flush valve body has a passage which connects the inlet and outlet. There is a valve seat at one end of the passage and a diaphragm is positioned to control the flow of water through the passage and to close upon the seat. A guide member is attached to the underside of the diaphragm and a refill ring is attached to the guide member. The improvement is specifically directed to the exterior of the refill ring which has a plurality of recesses to channel the flow of water through the flush valve passage. The recesses have a portion of constant size and a portion of gradually changing size. There are fins which separate the recesses and the fins are always in contact with the interior of the passage. The stroke of the diaphragm when moving between fully open and fully closed positions is approximately one-half of the axial length of the refill ring.

A refill ring for use in a diaphragm-type flush valve is mounted upon the guide member of the diaphragm assembly. The refill ring has an outer diameter approximating the inner diameter of the flush valve passage adjacent the diaphragm seat. The refill ring has a plurality of recesses formed about its periphery whereby closure of the diaphragm assembly upon its flush valve seat moves the refill ring within the flush valve passage, the exterior of the refill ring being in contact with the interior of the passage such that the flow of water past the refill ring is limited to the area of the refill ring peripheral recesses.

A tubular connection for a plumbing fixture such as a flush valve includes a conduit, one end of which is formed and adapted to extend within an opening in the plumbing fixture. The plumbing fixture opening includes an exterior peripheral stop. The conduit has a peripheral recess spaced from the end within the plumbing fixture opening, with a seal ring being positioned within the recess and in sealing contact with the opening and the conduit. The conduit has an outward peripheral projection, adjacent the recess, which projection is positioned against the peripheral stop of the plumbing fixture. A retainer is positioned adjacent the conduit end within the plumbing fixture opening and has portions thereof which extend through the conduit and in contact with the plumbing fixture to secure the conduit therein.

A check stop for use at the inlet of a plumbing fixture such as a flush valve includes a conduit and a sleeve attached at the inlet of the conduit. The sleeve has an inlet and an outlet and there is a valve member movable to close the sleeve inlet. There are water passages formed between the exterior of the valve member and the interior of the sleeve. A spring urges the valve member into a closure position with the sleeve inlet. There is an adjustment member accessible from outside the conduit and having a interior portion positioned within the spring and movable toward and away from the valve member. Water pressure acting on the valve member causes movement thereof away from the sleeve inlet as determined by the position of the adjustment member.
